The Magistrates issue warrants, prosecute trials, assess evidence, and pronounce judgments (there are no juries). Magistrates are appointed by the City Council. [1]: 248
Prestige: Magistrates are often respected out of hand. In some circles, however, they are loathed. It all depends on what impact the magistrates have had on your community, or more reliably, how wealthy your community is.
Accoutrement: Robes of office and the power to change the fate of people with one swing of a gavel.
Training: One would have to attend the College of Imperial Science at Doskvol Academy to become a magistrate. This is typically just the start. Some experience as an advocate and personal connections can help.
