Welcome to the Haven...

New Haven is the primary region of the Seven Skies, controlling all others. It is the most economically, industrially, politically, scientifically, and technologically advanced state in the entirety of the skies. It boasts the largest military force known as the Militia and a rigorous governmental system for both its High Governance that controls all of the skies and New Haven Governance that controls the region of New Haven. All of this is ruled by the Her Royal Majesty Queen Malya Thantoros who resides in the capital of Haven's Wing.

Structure

New Haven is the leader region of the Seven Skies. While other regions do act independently with their own rulers and governments (effectively making them countries), they all pledge allegiance to New Haven and its ruler, Queen Malya. She leads New Haven, and by association the entirety of the Seven Skies, with an iron fist. Her will is the will of all. Those who do not follow it face her sword.

 

The Queen is also accompanied by a group of diplomats, politicians, and officials known as the Governance. This organisation acts as New Haven's central government and is comprised of around a hundred and thirty-two different members. A hundred of these are tasked with controlling the entirety of the Seven Skies alongside Queen Malya, with the rest overseeing the welfare of New Haven. The former of these groups is known as The High Governance while the latter is known as The New Haven Governance.

 

These two groups also have their own hierarchies. The High Governance, as mentioned before, is comprised of hundred-odd different members of the government (MGs). These are ranked in the following fashion:

  1. The Queen's Counsel (ten MGs):

    The Queen's Council comprises ten of the most esteemed MGs chosen by the Queen. These members speak directly with the Queen about the implementation of policy and other governmental matters. They make the final decision to send a proposal to the Queen after it has been sifted through every other level of government.

  2. The Executive Council (fifty MGs):

    The Executive Council is the second-highest level of government. It is comprised of fifty top-ranked MGs formally chosen by the Queen's husband before Edward Rapture killed him. Currently, they are chosen by the Queen's brother Magnus Thantoros, who is the Chief Governmental Officer (CGO). This council reviews proposals given to them by the lower levels of government and makes amendments to them. They do not reject them nor create their own proposals. Because of this, MGs must have extensive knowledge of the Seven Skies Constitution and Law in order to be considered for a placement.

  3. The Senate (twenty MGs):

    The Senate is comprised of twenty MGs each assigned to a region of the Seven Skies for which they are responsible. Proposals are funnelled here in order to be assessed to see the benefits and liabilities it poses to each region. Senate members represent the will of their region but are not elected by the people, who must blindly trust these individuals to represent them aptly. They are instead chosen by the Executive Council. As well as amending proposals based on their opinions about it, Senate members can also put forward their own proposals. These proposals (after Senate amendments) proceed directly to the Executive Council.

  4. The Office of Legislation (twenty MGs):

    The Office of Legislation is comprised of twenty MGs and is the lowest level of government. It is tasked with creating new proposals that travel upward through the government system. The MGs here do not represent regions rather they represent different prominent organisations across the Seven Skies. These representatives are given to twenty of the most influential organisations in the Seven Skies (a ranking that is reviewed every year) by the Executive Council and communicate directly to the organisations, unlike Senate MGs.
    Proposals are usually created when a Legislation MG (an MG from the Office of Legislation) proposes an idea. A debate then ensues to flesh it out before it is finalised and sent to the Senate for amendments.

 

The hierarchy of the New Haven Governance is much simpler. It is ranked in the following fashion:

  1. Executive Council (ten MGs):

    Unlike the High Governance's Executive Council (often called the High Council in order to remove any confusion between the two), The New Haven Executive Council is the final stage of government. These MGs assess proposals by the other two levels and decide whether or not to implement them. At the forefront of this organisation is the Executive Legislator who is the leader of the Executive Council. They are chosen by the High Governance and often begin as a proposal in the Office of Legislature.

  2. The Second House (eleven MGs):

    The Second House is the middle level of governance. It is comprised of eleven MGs representing the eleven regions of New Haven. It functions the same as the Senate.

  3. The First House (eleven MGs):

    The First House is the lowest level of governance. It is comprised of eleven MGs representing the eleven most influential organisations of New Haven. It functions the same as the Office of Legislation except the ranking for organisations is reviewed every three years rather than one.

Culture

Because New Haven is the leader region of the Seven Skies, it is also the richest. The citizens of this region enjoy the finer things in life and the ports are always bustling with commerce. Merchants often transit through this popular economic destination, either selling their wares or restocking goods.

 

Status is incredibly important within New Haven. It defines who you are as a person. As a population, the Havians often see themselves as superior to the other regions, especially those not as economically prosperous as them. Even within New Haven society, the culture is incredibly hierarchical. Those who are connected to the government in some form, especially the higher branches, are always the richest and most influential. Next are those will military ties who also have a lot of status. Famous scholars proceed them with their vast quantities of knowledge garnering them respect. On the lowest section of this cultural pyramid, people of different races/places of origin are treated as inferior, often denied jobs or schooling.

Assets

New Haven is the richest of the seven regions within the skies. It boasts vast amounts of wealth and its currency is the most valued and thus mandated across all regions. They also have amassed the largest army, the Militia as they are known, to fight for them. In addition to controlling the region of New Haven, they also enforce the Queen's law to all other parts of the Seven Skies. The Militia have fortifications on almost every single island because of its size.

History

New Haven was the first region to be founded, being created in 17 AL. Its capital, Haven's Wing, was the first flying island to be built after initial liftoff away from the Earth. Eventually, other regions began popping up here and there, creating their own regions. For a time (until about 22 AL), these regions all worked completely independent from each other. However, these caused many wars to break out between regions, causing all sorts of chaos. It was King Alexander Therito who united all the regions together under his rule through the 23 AL First Aerial Civil War. Using the army he had amassed, he quickly took control of the surrounding regions before moving on to those further out. Eventually, after about five years in 28 AL, he had taken all the regions, unifying them into what he dubbed the Seven Skies. From here on out, King Alexander became the sole ruler of the Seven Skies until a government system was implemented during the end of his reign in 31 AL. Alexander had realised it would be too much for a monarch to take to control the masses of the skies and therefore implemented the current system of government New Haven and the rest of the Seven Skies currently uses.

Demography and Population

The population of New Haven tends to congregate around the largest city and capital of the region, Haven's Wing. This is where a majority of the population inhabits. The outer, more rural islands are still populated, just not as much as the inner, more urban areas.

 

The population of New Haven is that of a young one. A majority of individuals are aged between 30 and 40 years of age, with the 20-30 age bracket coming in at a close second.

Military

The Militia is the military force that enforces and protects New Haven from threats. They are the most powerful military force in the entire region, with around two hundred million active serving soldiers and one hundred million active serving security members. Their armada spans over ten thousand ships, with their most prized ship (the capital ship The Queen's Fist) commanding a fleet of five thousand of the most powerful Militia-model Thundering Eagles (known as The Queen's Brigaders).

Technological Level

New Haven is incredibly technoligically advanced as well. It boasts radio systems that are widely avaliable to the public as well as mystic crystal necklaces due to its ties to Flintpol. It has water filtration systems and sewage incinerators, boosting overall cleanliness. It has such scientific and technological advancements as the Thundering Eagle, discovery and utilisation of mystic crystal, and the first sky governmental system.

Foreign Relations

New Haven has diplomatic ties with all other regions as it controls them. The High Governance however tends to stay out of the affairs of individual regions and focuses more on legislation that affects the whole of the Seven Skies. It has especially favourable ties however to the regions closest to it, which are often the richer regions due to its proximity to New Haven. Ties with the outer regions though are quite soured due to the economic status difference between the inner and outer regions.

Agriculture & Industry

New Haven's agricultural and industrial activities occur on the more far-flung islands in this region, away from civil society. The region produces some of the most high-quality meat and produce, making these islands popular port destinations for merchants to restock their supplies. The region also boasts the largest number of Thundering Eagle manufacturers, ninety per cent of which make ships for the Militia. Factories also churn out much of the building materials used in New Haven. The region also relies heavily on imports from the outer regions that focus more on industrial manufacturing.

Trade & Transport

New Haven transports its goods and people via an intricate train system (within the islands) and vast skyship routes (between islands). Radios, new devices that allow for long-range communication, have been implemented to uphold the efficiency of these shipping routes and train systems. New Haven is also the only region to have aerial plane routes, albiet very few amount. These planes allow people, especially the Militia, to hop from island to island very quickly.

Education

New Haven boasts the top education of the skies, with the top university in the Seven Skies being Haven's Wing University. Many of the residents of Haven's Wing and other more urban islands enjoy the luxuries of private education with some of the best teachers in the region. Most scholars and scientists flock to New Haven due to it being a intellectual haven as well as a civil haven. However, education is incredibly status-driven. Those who do not meet certain standards of society are rejected from these elite schools.

Infrastructure

New Haven boasts many infrastructure marvels such as incredibly effective sewage and waste management system, water system, road infrastructure, and many fortifications and military bases. It also has incredibly sophisticated train networks and skyship routes and is the only region to have aerial plane routes. It also has the largest town square (Government Square) located in the centre of Haven's Wing just outside the Hall of Governance.

Currency

The official currency of New Haven consists of the potin, the farthing, the stater, and the crown (in order of value). A hundred potins is equal to one farthing, a hundred farthings is equal to one stater, and fifty staters are equal to one crown. Besides coins, food and clothes are common currency amongst the poorer folk.

Major Exports

Much of the meat and produce New Haven produces is exported to other regions as well as a lot of vessels such as Thundering Ships. Haven's Wing also has a booming clothing industry, leading to heavy exportation of clothes and cloth materials.

Major Imports

New Haven imports a lot of industrial equipment and goods from the outer regions where it is produced more frequently. This is crucial to its own industrial sector as well as the construction of New Haven infrastructure and transport. Mystic crystal is also heavily imported from the adjacent region of Flintpol, a prominent mining region that harvests mystic crystals. Flintpol is especially crucial as they have some rudimentary methods of synthesising mystic crystals.

Legislative Body

As mentioned previously, laws are created in the Office of Legislation (High Governance) and the First House (New Haven Governance) and approved by the Queen and her counsel (High Governance) and the Executive Council (New Haven Governance).

Executive Body

The Militia is responsible for the interpretation and enforcement of the law. They decide your fate in a court of law which allows for a defendant and prosecution. However, in instances where the prosecutor is the Militia, they instantly win any court case.
