Hyperborea

Much of the world is lush wilderness, but perhaps the most remarkable place is Hyperborea.   The lands of the frozen north are dominated by mile-high glaciers and bare-faced rock. For most of the year, much of the land is devoid of life.   Hyperborea however is an anomaly in this land. Warmed by hot springs and geysers, this place is a large expanse of lush territory full of kinds of life that cannot be found for hundreds of miles to the south. Surrounded by towering walls of ice on all sides, foreign travellers who have stumbled upon Hyperborea call it a paradise, a place that must have been crafted by the gods themselves.

Geography

A lush temperate environment, sweeping pine forests and thick brush cover the land, growing from soil rich from the melting glaciers.   Hot springs and glacier-fed lakes provide water for the mammoths, wolves, deer and lions native the area. Small fruits and tart berries are found year-round but are especially common during the summer and autumn.   Across the land in places are powerful geysers and dangerously hot pools of water that hold vibrant, beautiful colours. In some places, traversing the land around these is dangerous as the ground is known to collapse into scalding water.   From the view of a traveller at the edge of the ice wall, Hyperborea looks as though it stretches on forever in a wide expanse of beautiful green and brown in a world of white and blue.

Fauna & Flora

The native life of Hyperborea is an amalgamation of plants and animals found throughout the rest of the frozen north as well as lands much further to the south.   Mammoths are the largest denizens, and travel in herds of up to a dozen individuals. Saber-toothed lions, wolves, bears, hyenas and giant snakes are the most dangerous of predators that stalk the land, hunting the plentiful deer, moose and elk.   A collection of reptiles and amphibians also call Hyperborea home. The giant snakes are the uncontested kings of the land, but humble lizards, frogs and turtles live out their lives in the Oasis of the North.

Natural Resources

While there are few people who live in Hyperborea to harvest them, the greatest natural resources of the land are timber from the plentiful trees, as well as minerals brought to the surface by the heated water.   Some of these minerals are used medicinally, and others are used in the forging of strong metals.
