Joint Report by the Archaeological Institutes

Abubu still tower in some parts of the Eurus Gate, where our species is supposed to have originated. Our evolutionary ancestors, weaver birds, often built nests high up on these kava plants, or in caves near the bank of the Eurus Creek, which runs through the center of this region. Archaeological digs in the area, especially in the pakaka caves, have shown continuous habitation by tool-using birds for at least 1,800,000 years.
– Excerpt from Chapter II of the Joint Report
The Joint Report by the Several Archaeological Institutes of Clara, often just shortened to The Joint Report or even The Report, is the most complete, most audacious historiographical effort ever to chart the history of both humankind, dronekind, and halorkind on Clara. Currently nearing its one-millionth anniversary, the records fill a massive library, as well as several online servers.

Purpose

Where did we start? When did we get here? Who did we come from? How did we change?
– Preface to the Report
The Report's purpose is quite simple:
To compile an accurate, organized, and searchable compendium on the history of life on Clara
To do that, they have several prongs of operation, which form the Grand History branch of the Archaeological Institutes. They...
  • Search for and excavate archaeological sites throughout Clara,
  • Preserve Clara's preexisting sites of natural or historic import,
  • Record a continual history of the present, and,
  • Fill in gaps in the past historiographical record.

Document Structure

Clauses

The first ten chapters of the Joint Report are put together into the first volume, Environment. Environment depicts the world before habitation by sentients, and was put together as a separate project by drones just before terraforming. This is a volume dedicated to mapping out the flora, fauna, geology, and geography of Clara.   Next, the next ten chapters depict Clara during the pre-drone phase. Since during this time, no records were kept, much of the record is based on later excavations and theories.   Next, the first 800,000 years of the records fill 800 volumes. The sections are divided into "millennia", which are based on drone observations of behavior and anatomy. Similar records begin to appear in the halorkind's gates, attempting to catalog their history. However, since during this period no serious archaeological institutes were founded, the evidence put into writing is relatively small.   The next 200,000 years are catalogued as "centuries". During this period, the dome had fallen, and the Archaeological Institutes had been established. Therefore, the records were kept in much greater detail, and merited more space in the records. The 1,999 volumes fill up most of the Reference Library's space.

Historical Details

Background

The project began after some terraforming Outrider Drones began keeping detailed record of what occurred inside the nature preserve they kept watch over. At a similar time, Supervisor Drones began keeping their own journals of what went on outside the preserve.   Eventually, thousands of years in the future, civilization developed domeside and both humans and halorin. After Domefall, the humans, drones, and halorin in charge of keeping records of history came together to form the three Archaelogical Institutes. The Joint Report was their first, and greatest, undertaking.
