Summoning in D&D 5e

Summoning is a powerful type of magic that allows you to call upon creatures from other planes of existence to aid you in battle or to help you with other tasks. Summoning spells can be found on the spell lists of several classes, including clerics, druids, warlocks, and wizards.   To summon a creature, you must first cast a summoning spell. The spell will specify the type of creature that you can summon, as well as the level of the creature. The higher the level of the creature, the more powerful it will be, but it will also be more difficult to summon.   Once you have cast a summoning spell, you must roll a die to see if the summoning is successful. The die roll is modified by your spellcasting ability modifier, and the difficulty of the die roll depends on the level of the creature you are trying to summon. If the summoning is successful, the creature will appear in an unoccupied space within 60 feet of you.   Summoned creatures are generally under your control, but they may have their own goals and motivations. They may also be able to act independently of you, especially if they are not bound by a spell effect.   Summoning spells can be used for a variety of purposes, including:
  • To summon a creature to aid you in battle.
  • To summon a creature to help you with a task, such as carrying heavy objects or exploring a dangerous area.
  • To summon a creature to provide information or advice.
  • To summon a creature to serve as a guardian or protector.
Summoning spells can be very powerful, but they should be used with caution. Some summoned creatures can be dangerous, and they may not always be loyal to you. It is important to be prepared to deal with the consequences of summoning a creature, whether they are good or bad.

Here is a new summoning spell that you may find interesting:

Summon Lesser Fiend   3rd-level conjuration (ritual)   Casting Time: 1 minute   Range: 60 feet   Components: V, S, M (a drop of blood from a fiend)   Duration: 1 hour   You summon a fiend to your side. The fiend must be a creature of the fiend type with a challenge rating less than or equal to 3. The fiend appears in an unoccupied space within 60 feet of you. It obeys your commands as long as they are not suicidal.   The fiend disappears when it dies, when the spell ends, or when you dismiss it as an action. You can dismiss the fiend at any time.   At Higher Levels   When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the challenge rating of the fiend you summon increases by 1 for each slot level above 3rd.

Here are some tips for using summoning spells effectively:

  • Choose the right creature for the job. Consider the creature's abilities and weaknesses when choosing which creature to summon.
  • Be prepared to control the creature. Some summoned creatures can be dangerous, so it is important to be prepared to deal with them if they become unruly.
  • Use the creature's abilities to your advantage. Summoned creatures can have a variety of abilities, so use them to your advantage in battle or when completing tasks.
  • Don't be afraid to dismiss the creature if it becomes a threat. You can always dismiss a summoned creature as an action, so don't be afraid to do so if it becomes a threat to you or your allies.
Summoning can be a powerful tool for adventurers, but it is important to use it wisely. By following these tips, you can ensure that summoning spells are a valuable asset in your arsenal.
