Abhartach

Abhartach are a race of human that are approximately half Fir Bolg and half Fomorian. They are short in stature, but very muscular. Abhartach search out a simple existence, but also have a lingering yearn for adventure. Common careers for these men are sailors, metallurgists, miners, smiths, and farmers. People of the land, they are very resourceful and crafty. In fact, Abhartach goods are considered the highest of quality. They are very hardy so long as they are properly fed, which is no small task. Despite their size, they east almost twice that of a normal man. A rare, but not absent trait of the Abhartach, thanks to their Fomorian blood, is that of pairs of horns or antlers. If there were to be a single hobby well-renowned by the Abhartach, it would be binge drinking. Most men would not dare try to out-drink a Abhartach. Abhartach are huge fans of alchemy, but most of them seldom enter a life of scholarly studies as druids do. Most Abhartach are sorcerers and inherit a natural affinity towards the alchemical through the residual genes of Fomorian ancestors. Most notably, their alchemical lineage returns through the life through a ríastrad, otherwise known as a war spasm. When provoked by an enemy or a serious obstacle viewed as an enemy, a Abhartach's body becomes supercharged after being hit with a critical amount of adrenaline that passes a biological threshold. Once in a ríastrad, the Abhartach's body morphs into the height of a regular man, while retaining their same musculature and gaining an equivalent amount of strength due to the size increase. However, most Abhartach go mad when in this state, and tend to not only attack their intended target but also assault any other targets within reach. Abhartach with more Fomorian influence in their DNA also usually gain bestial traits not limited to claws, horns, and jowls. Abhartach with even a bit of Tuatha Dé in their genealogy have been shown to have milder ríastrad that are not as powerful, but easier to control. Those few Abhartach who become smiths and metallurgists, while much more scholarly, tend to imbue their ríastrad with druidic elemental powers, which may make the ríastrad easier or more difficult to control.
