Whitestone Quarry

Whitestone Quarry has gone by many other names historically. It was once a great hall constructed by the elves from the natural caverns, later the seat of power for Khaglosh's Hoard, and it has been expanded vastly in modern times by Gavenlow.

Purpose / Function

A seemingly never ending and ever-expanding mine, where the Scepter, especially Gavenlow, extracts the majority of its stone and mineral deposits. The initial stone is white and powdery and strangely soft, like sandstone, but when worked with water and minerals and strengthened with heat, becomes an excellent building material.   Its workers are often called ghost men, as they return from work in a fine white dust that takes days to wash off properly, and veterans of the mine know not to bother.

Alterations

To current date, the mine shafts web out in every direction beneath the nearest peaks of the Spine. The routes are meticulously measured and recorded, but navigating it without a seasoned guide could leave someone so utterly lost and confused that some have died from thirst in the quarries' labyrinth.

Architecture

As wood is scarce in the Scepter valley, most of the scaffolding and supports have to be imported from up the River Roots.

History

The mines have been around since even before the founding of modern Gavenlow. Its initial halls were carved by the elves back when Gavenlow was called Elvenstone, and the difference in precision and shaping of the walls makes this immediately obvious. The elves's name for the original dwelling and central chamber was Timeil Hall.
