the feasts of joy

the elves found many years ago when they were dealing with the insane spirits that what would repel them was joy. so one a week they did something they called the feast of joy. at the feast of joy they would gather together in there communities and have a big feast and eat all sorts of food and laugh and have fun. they then would have a dance play music and play games together as a community to have joy to ward of the insane spirits. every community did something different but they all had a feast and then a activity of some kind. it was also as a way to forget the toils of the past week and not to worry about the toils of next week and as something to look forward to. it also strengthened the connection to the community and make it easier to live and survive. many people enjoyed this and it warded of the insane spirits with were becoming a increasing problem. at these feasts they would also tell stories of heroes past of there ancestors. this seemed to protect them for a week and so they would do it weekly and then create hunting groups that would head out and slay the insane spirits. they also would help other people and do service to others at these feasts and they would make plans weekly. in the elven mythology says that the spirits are weak to there opposite joy they mostly focus on eliminating joy so creating joy would prevent the insane spirits from spreading chaos destruction and grief. the person leading the festival commonly changes so everyone gets a turn to be in charge of the festival if the weren't able to do so the mayor or town leader would commonly fill that role.
