The Harbinger of Blood

An old rusty bloodstained dagger, pitted and dull looking. The first look at this blade belies it's true nature, a nightmarishly powerful weapon of chaos. This dagger was one of a series of Harbinger items of the Abyss which helped accelerate the corruption of Old Sarkoris, and help cause the opening of the Worldwound through the corruption of the local populace.   The Harbinger of Blood corrupted the local demon cult of it's village, driving an endless thirst for the ritual sacrifice of any outsider that had the misfortune of running across the small village the blade was formed in. This constant lust for bloodshed eventually lead to the village turning on themselves in a constant lust for my sacrifice, the deaths of the entire cult acting as one of the catalysts for the opening of the Worldwound.

Mechanics:

Attunement: Only those of a chaotic alignment can attune to the Harbinger of Blood Other alignments must make a Fortitude save DC15 just to handle the dagger without becoming physically ill.   Modifiers: The Harbinger of Blood is a +3 dagger, any living creature struck by the dagger must make a Fortitude DC 25 or take 5 persistent bleed damage until treated with a Medicine skill check of DC 25, or until healed by magical means. The Harbinger of Blood does an additional 3d6 necrotic damage to any creature of a Lawful alignment. Personality: Being an artifact, the Harbinger of Blood has a will of it's own, and the capacity to telepathically communicate with any creature with an Intelligence greater than 8. It will constantly pressure those in it's presence to use it to cause harm to other living creatures, and will withhold or reduce it's abilities for anyone in possession of it who shows restraint in combat, or uses non-violent means when a more obvious violent option is available. Particularly violent, ruthless, or sadistic behavior pleases the Harbinger of Blood and it can grant addition boons to it's wielder at the GM's discretion for such behavior, though they should always be strongly demonically themes, and cause outward physical signs of corruption.
