Hero Cards

Hero Cards is a collectable battle card game depicting a duel between two adventurers. I has several ruleset variations, primarily regarding the power level of cards allowed to be played, and the effecti experience, or 'level' of the adventures in play.

Basic Rules:

Players start with 4 cards in hand, draw one at the start of their turn, and may play up to two cards in one round, unless specific cards state otherwise. Players chose a hero card to be the hero they're adventuring as, or may use the default hero, listed below. The game goes until one hero has fallen, unless playing by special rules, or if specific cards list otherwise.

Basic Actions:

Play a card: The most basic action, you may play up to two cards per round. Short rest: You can chose to rest for the turn instead of taking any other actions, allowing you to draw two additional cards. Defend: You can, in place of one of your two cards, choose to wait defensively. This reduces the damage you take from any cards your opponent plays in the following turn by 1. React: This is a special action, usually taking one of your two cards for the turn, but sometimes both. Some cards force your opponent to react in some way to nullify part or all of their effect. Scavenge: If you're out of cards to draw from your deck, you can expend both cards for the round scavenging the battlefield for something to fight with. This action draws one random card from your discard pile.

Encumbrance Rules:

If you have 6 or more cards, you're considered moderately encumbered. When you would draw a card for any reason, you must roll a d12 (unless a card lists an exception). The d12 roll must equal or exceed your current number of cards to successfully draw. Failed draws or not seen, nor discarded; simply left in the draw pile as if you'd never had a draw effect. If you already have 10 cards, you're considered heavily encumbered, and cannot draw more cards.

Card Rules:

Basics: You may play two cards per turn, typically. Unless otherwise noted, the listed card effects go into effect the moment it's played, and unless otherwise noted, the effect can target anyone you chose (if multiple targets exist). Many card effect require you to roll dice. You simple roll the given number and kinds of dice listen on the card, adding the rolled numbers together along with any listen modifiers. Card Sections: Name - The name of the card. Rarity - The Colored icon the the left of the name. This is the rarity of the card, and comes in four stages; common, Represented by a blue circle, Rare, a blue triangle, Epic, a purple diamond, and Legendary, a golden gem. This has no effect on gameplay, with rare exceptions. Descriptors - The list of card descriptors starts on the line right under the name. Most of these don't do anything on their own, but are important for various card and hero interactions. Ability - The effect the card, listed under the descriptors. These listed abilities take effect when the card is played unless otherwise specified.
