The Eye

Nestled in the eastern mountains overlooking the city of Dey, The Eye is a grand and imposing edifice, perched like a watchful guardian. Facing east, its design ensures the High Magus Council's chambers are bathed in the warm glow of the late morning sun, symbolizing illumination and wisdom. The structure is only a short distance from the Academies, reinforcing its central role in magical education and governance.   The Eye is a sprawling complex that combines functionality with artistic grandeur. Its central feature is the circular Council chamber, known as the Inner Eye, with a grand skylight directly above, allowing natural light to illuminate its ornate interior. Surrounding the chamber are facilities necessary for the day-to-day operations of the High Magus Council and its auxiliaries:   Councilor Suites: Private, lavishly appointed quarters for each Councilor and the Arbiter. Each suite includes a study filled with rare tomes, a bedroom with ornate furnishings, and a personal balcony.
Servants’ and Guards’ Dormitories: Modest but comfortable accommodations for the servants and elite guards who ensure the smooth operation and security of the building.
Kitchen and Banquet Hall: A kitchen staffed by culinary experts and a grand hall used for hosting diplomatic events, ceremonies, and Council gatherings.
Communal Spaces: Libraries, meditation rooms, and gardens for the Councilors and staff to rest and reflect.
Observation Spire: A towering pinnacle used for celestial observations.

Secure Areas:

The Covenant of the Wisdoms' Chambers: Hidden within the heart of the structure, these chambers house the highly regulated and secretive operations of Psychomancers.
Aurum Vaults: A secure treasury where the Aurum Shard currency is stored and safeguarded.
The Aegis Archives: A heavily guarded library where the sacred Aegis Codex and other critical documents are maintained and studied.

Purpose / Function

The Eye serves as the central hub for the governance of the Concordance of Aligned Realms. It is the seat of the High Magus Council, where decisions affecting the Pactlands are made. Beyond its political function, The Eye also:
  • Houses critical magical knowledge, such as the Aegis Codex.
  • Protects valuable resources, like the Aurum Shards.
  • Provides a secure base for the Covenant of the Wisdoms.
  • Hosts ceremonial events that honor the Broken Choir and the signing of the Pact.

Alterations

Sinces its creation, The Eye has undergone numerous expansions and renovations to meet the evolving needs of the Concordance:
  • The Observation Spire was added 200 years after its initial construction, enabling advanced astronomical and magical research.
  • The Covenant of the Wisdoms’ Chambers were fortified 450 years ago, following an attempted infiltration by rogue Psychomancers.
  • The Aurum Vaults were expanded 300 years ago to accommodate the increased circulation of the Aurum Shard.
  • The Outer Ring: Additional dormitories, kitchens, and storage facilities were constructed over time to accommodate the growing number of servants and guards. Despite these additions, the original architecture has been preserved, with new sections harmoniously blending into the existing structure.

Architecture

The Eye is a masterpiece of Terramantic artistry, a testament to the ingenuity and skill of the magi who shaped it. Every surface is adorned with intricate stone reliefs depicting the history of the Concordance, the sacrifice of the Broken Choir, and the ten Currents of Magic.   Reliefs and Statues: Towering statues of the Broken Choir stand sentinel at the entrance, while intricate reliefs along the walls illustrate pivotal moments in Pact history.
Stone Art: The floors and ceilings are inlaid with enchanted mosaics that glow faintly, their patterns shifting to reflect the time of day or significant events.
Banners and Runes: Each nation’s banner hangs in the central atrium, alongside magical runes inscribed in the Aegis Tongue, invoking protection and unity.

Defenses

Despite rarity of incidents, The Eye is one of the most secure locations in the Pactlands, with layered defenses combining physical, magical, and personnel-based measures:   Elite Guards: Trained warriors ready to go into action at a moment's notice.   Guardians of the Sight: Magi known for their martial abilities are often recruited into the Guardians of the Sight, ready to defend the Eye should it be requires.   Emergency Elementals: Dormant Elementals, bound by Animancers to serve as a last line of defense, lie hidden within the structure. In the event of an extreme threat, these beings—formed from fire, stone, water, and air—are awakened to neutralize intruders with overwhelming force. Each Elemental is able to be activated by Council members in an emergency.

History

Construction of The Eye began immediately after the signing of the Concordance and spanned 25 years, with contributions from all four member nations. Upon its completion, the building became a symbol of unity and hope, representing the sacrifices made to defeat the Endless Maw.   Over the centuries, The Eye has stood as a beacon of stability, its immaculate condition a testament to the care and reverence of those who maintain it. As the Concordance approaches its millennial anniversary, The Eye remains a shining symbol of the Pact's enduring legacy.
