Nalya grew up in the mountainous province of **Calendor**, the ancestral seat of the House of Roses. Her childhood was marked by her father’s progressive ideals, which emphasized the value of justice and the well-being of all subjects. As a young girl, Nalya admired Aldren’s strength of character, though she was too young to fully grasp the political ramifications of his choices.
Her education under the **Wings of the Swan**, a prestigious school at the Academies in Shavi, exposed her to the broader machinations of Halish nobility. There, she honed her skills in diplomacy, governance, and military strategy, though her innate compassion often set her apart from her more calculating peers. It was at the academy that she forged key relationships, including her enduring friendship with **Keltz Wicket**.
After her father’s sudden death, Nalya returned home to find her uncle, Lord Cydrin Ruus, consolidating power. His traditionalist values clashed with her father’s legacy, culminating in his attempt to marry her off to Izon Thain. Refusing to submit, Nalya fled to Arronay, hoping to find help from her uncle Vaelin Morien, the Blueseer, whose guidance set her on the path to petitioning King Jarik Hillbreaker for autonomy.
Jarik, a sympathetic soul who knew Nalya’s father well, heard Nalya’s please. Upon careful consideration, but still bound by the laws of the Pact, temporarily adopted Nalya, making her a Ward of the Crown. This adoption, however, would only grant her autonomy for a period of one year, after which time her fate would go back into the hands of Cydrin Ruus, unless she could prove herself worthy of choosing her own destiny. To do so, Jarik appointed her to lead a small force into the Disputed Lands to investigate the actions of the Empire of Vector within the Disputed Lands, and attempt to discover what their true intentions are. If she succeeds, Jarik would be able to bestow upon her a new title, one where she could regain her autonomy.
