Ariella grew up in a humble village in the Reach Province of Shavi, a region known for its rocky highlands and rolling meadows. Her mother, Alariel, was a seamstress, fiercely protective and resourceful despite their meager means. Ariella’s brother, Thalion, four years her senior, acted as a her keeper, teaching her to be clever and independent. Their family life was simple but filled with warmth.
When her Terramancy abilities awakened, Ariella was both awed and terrified by their power. Leaving for the Academies in Dey was a bittersweet moment, one that left her feeling guilty for abandoning her family. Over time, her abilities blossomed under the guidance of Varion Tomei, whom she grew to respect deeply.
After Varion's unexpected disappearance, her education was overseen by Elirin Vaelis, a wealthy patron of talented Magi in Dey. However, upon the discovery of her brother's unjust Soulreaving, she rebelled against Elirin, stealing the Marked Rune that contained her brother's soul, which resulted in the death of the Luxmancer who helped her reclaim her brother. Her actions marked her as a fugitive of the Pact, cementing her future.
Escaping Shavi by stowing away on a Raszan trading vessel, she made her way east, toward the Disputed Lands and Caede, two places she knew that Elirin could not find her.

Ariella was trained as a Terramancy at the Deyish Magesterium in Shavi. Trained under the wing of Varion Tomei, she is an exceptionally gifted Terramancer, with mastery of her gift well ahead of her peers.
Mental Trauma
Ariella buries much in the way of regret. She lost her mother in the Tragedy of Eryshale, and her brother was soulreaved, both incidents where Ariella did not find out until it was much too late.
