Savai of the Shallow Calms

Log Line
The Savai of the Shallow Calms are humans who live on a collection of islands which sit on top of undersea caverns and cave systems. They mine the ore from these cave systems and have created enormous metal barges and ships with the help of the Gnome population nearby.
Physical Description
The Savai are taller than average humans with tan to dark skin thanks to the sparse vegetation in the Shallow Calms. They are a rather athletic people as many are divers or miners in service of the greater community. Their hair is left long and flowing to help protect their backs from the harsh sun. They tend to wear little clothing, choosing to cover everything below the waist and wearing loose tops to improve circulation.
Customs
The Savai have many local customs from the annual Clam Cook-Off to the world famous Wavecrashers Surfing Competition. All Savai customs are in service of reminding their people that life within the Calms is a blessing and that life should be enjoyed as a community rather than alone. The Savai are very welcoming to outsiders, having a festival every year where outsiders can pledge their life to the way of the Savai and become a part of their people.
Architectures
Most Savai homes are bunkers built into the hills of the Shallow Calms with an open entrance usually covered by preserved palm leaves or palm bark strips. The few standalone buildings are built with a mix of metals and palm bark since lumber in the Shallow Calms is diffcult to come by. Their buildings are short but spread out with plenty of shaded windows to offer protection from exposure and allow a breeze to flow through. The decor of the architecture features traditional Savai tattoo designs that many Savai earn as they come of age.
Foreign Relations
The Savai are very welcoming to other groups and nations provided that they follow the laws of the Shallow Calms. Many companies come to the Savai for special order vessels that are quick and can withstand the punishment of the waters near the Storm threshold. It takes quite some time to get a hand on one of these ships but not a single one has sunk since the creation of the first metalcraft. The waiting list goes back three months at any given time but the result is worth the wait for most seabound companies.
