Strix
The strix is a small magical species of owl native to the Carthannas region, known for its sharp, tube-like beak which it uses to drink blood from its prey. The strix uses its long, sharp talons to grip into the flesh of its prey before stabbing through the skin with its beak and drawing blood up with its long, thin tongue.

The strix appears to have the body of a small burrowing owl with the beak and tongue of a hummingbird. Its coloration ranges from rust-red to reddish-brown, with a dirty white underside. Its beak is yellow at the tip, fading to gray at its base. The strix's body is about 6 inches long, with a wingspan of about 1-1/2 feet. It weighs about 1 pound.
