Monarchy of the Sunlands

The monarchy of the Sunlands ruled from the Consolidation in 895 KA until the destruction of Palace Town in 2690 ME. A united monarch of the Sunlands was created by the last of Imperitor of Dragun Carmon GreenBlood who used a variety of diplomatic, political, and military actions to gain control of the entire Sunlands. Ruling over such a ethically diverse kingdom made the need for multiculturalism a defining trait of the monarchy. Cultural appropriation was used to create a set idea of what it meant to be Sunner, something which had never existed before. The monarch's of the Sunlands also had a great deal of political sway on the Plateau being in charge of the largest and most powerful of the Five Lands, as such they tended to be trend setters and were the first to incorporate reforms according to the Democratic Revolution, and helped found the Monotherium. Apart from a brief two year vacancy, the Monarchs of the Sunlands ruled continuously for five thousand five hundred and seventy-five years. Two dynasties controlled the Sun Seat, the founding GreenBlood Dynasty, and their successors the Fanya Dynasty.

  1. Carmon I GreenBlood
  2. Grieg II GreenBlood

Requirements

The Monarchy used a form of primogeniture that follows regular seniority to determine line of succession but uses the Rivush tradition of name connection as opposed to the Dragun custom of meritocracy, as such married women who took their husbands names could not inherit. An alternative to inherritance is to be chosen by the Succession Council, as per Dragun tradition. This has only happened once however.

As per Rivush tradition the position of Monarch is never vacant, as soon as the prior monarch has vaccated the position (through death or abdecation) their successor is immediatly considered to occupy the position. Although a religious corrination is still held as an official ceremony to display the monarch as chosen before Gaia.

The monarchy's obligations included defending the Sunlands, keeping it united, and keeping its people protected from all threats within and without.

The monarch, as the commander-in-chief of the Sunland Military Forces and head of the executive branch, was responcible for ensureing agreed policy is carried out. They could also call a Grand Council to convene and determine taxes and other political issues not under the remit of influence of the monarch.

Accoutrements & Equipment

All monarchs are crowned with the Ray Band, a simple piece of yellow cloth, a new one made for each monarch. They also sat upon the Sun Seat, a plane low backed wooden garden chair carved with a sun on the back. Official dress for the monarch always included a sash and a short yellow and white royal mantle.

History

The position of monarch of the Sunlands was created by High Seat Carmon of Noble House GreenBlood of the Little Stream following the signing of the Charter of Unity and his marriage to Queen Elloin of Miseta, thereby unifying two great crowns of the Sunlands. The GreenBlood dynasty would rule over the Sunlands for the next four thousand five hundred and eighty years, until the death of King Grieg II who, as the last surviving member of the GreenBlood family, left no heirs. As such, following Dragun tradition, a succession council was formed. This council ruled the Sunlands for two years before settling on High Seat Zebadiah of Noble House Fanya on the Bridge as the next monarch. The Fanya Dynasty would rule the Sunlands for the remaining one thousand one hundred and ninety-five years, before the monarchy was destroyed in the destruction of Palace Town.
