War Frigate

Every self-respecting pirate with big dreams has a ship to match. So, squire of the sea, which frigate takes your fancy?

Purpose

War frigates are considered medium-sized ships and are often used in port blockades or as defensive support in exploration fleets.

They are more durable than scout frigates, but less so than merchant frigates. They have more firepower than merchant and scout frigates combined, but are average in speed.

Some crews with more money on their hands will outfit their ships in uniform colors and trimming as a show of power. They may even install figureheads that take their fancy.

At this point in time, traditional war frigates aren't as popular as they used to be, due to steam ships always being able to escape their range and sail against the wind. Whether a hybrid ship is possible with the usual wooden frame remains to be seen.

Propulsion

Usually relies on sails for movement. An experimental addition of steam engines was attempted, but didn't catch on after the Carnation cruise ship sank in 1839.

Weapons & Armament

24 large cannons, twelve on port and starboard.
Crew defense depends on the combat training of said crew members, ranging from swashbucklers to martial artists.

Armor and defense

They are normally equipped with bulwarks and reinforced sterns to be able to crush through small obstacles.

Some of them have iron keels in order to withstand scraping from rough rocks if they get beached.

Steel plates are occasionally installed around gunports, but more to withstand the weight of the guns than to protect against gunfire.

Communication Tools & Systems

Navigators carry megaphones and colored flags to wave as signals.

Hangars & docked vessels

Some war frigates have smaller lifeboats loaded on board, in the event the main ship sinks.
