Do to the overarching nature of magic and the heavy governmental control of saltpeter, the wonders of black powder remain untouched almost. Wheelock muskets are probably the most advanced firearm available, and even that is an expensive investment for a private user.

Rumors have begun to spread to the empire’s spies of firearms able to be fired multiple times before being reloaded. The alchemy of black powder is not focused on in The Strongbow Empire but even the threat of higher firepower is enough to get Emperor Alistair van Strongbow intrigued.

Because saltpeter is highly regulated, private sales of black powder and guns is limited at best, and expensive at most. A booming black market arose out of this injustice, but it still is an expensive investment to own and maintain a large battery of firearms.
