The scorching marshes

South of the Hanro Realm, the Two Kingdoms, where the symmetrical river of Hanro used to flow down, are now situated the Scorching marshes.

Origin:

Like we have seen before, while analyzing the river that stopped flowing down the Hanro Realm, the Lands, once fruitful and populated, that are situated downstream from the Hanro territories, have stopped driving where the water stopped flowing through them.   A few centuries have now passed since this tragedy and these lands have been the theater of wars, famine, sickness, and so much more tragedy. Some even say the water was magic and protected the land, but mostly it is believed that the dryness provoked the rest of the tragedies on this land.

The transformation of the land:

Burnt by the dragon fire, and magic from the War Mages that intervene, emptied by looters and destroyed by mercenaries, the land slowly dried and deserted. People fled and the heart died. Where the land was moist and deep-water marshes covered the earth, only dry bushes are now erect on dry land.   As soon as the land has been empty of human and plant life, the dragons repossessed it. The white dragons use this land to rest when they cross the Oryuh Archipelago. The black dragon use this place to kill their enemies when they have some, humans or elves. And the red dragons, the one who breathe fire, sometimes decide to nest there.   It’s mostly to them that we owe the name of the scorching marshes, because anyone who dares transgress their territory while they are nesting is immediately burnt.

A doomed land:

Because of this, and even if the dragons don’t nest here often, people consider this land out of reach and doomed. Nobody ever tries to cross it unless it is absolutely necessary, which mostly isn’t. Only a handful of mercenaries accept to lead a caravan across that desert if paid handsomely. But none promise to keep you safe to the other side. They ask for payment in advance, of course.
