Deities and Gods

Deities in the Obscured Seas work on the basis that belief brings power. The belief in concept of powers, and the subsequent pairing of this concept or power to an imaginary being can give live to such a being and actually grant them power over the associated concept or power. The power and thus presence of a deity waxes and wanes in tandem with the number of believers a deity has. The more believers, the more powerful the possible manifestation of the deity within the world. In short, deities are a personified force or concept, empowered and personified by the belief in them.
The seeds of deities are as numerous as bacteria, but without anyone to believe they do not wield any power and are unable to manifest. This baseline of 'slumbering gods' consists of two categories: gods that never had any power, and gods that have been forgotten and have lost their powers. Above these stand the Small Gods, the Lesser Deities, the Intermediate Deities, and the Greater Deities.
