Trivinea

The Trivinea is a short three pronged stalk with glowing leaves, growing mainly behind the various rock formations of its habitat. It uses the glowing spots on its leaves to attract small herbivores to take its spores, however some can threaten to destroy the entire plant down to the root. Should this happen, the Trivinea will flash a bright light, giving off a heat signature and wounding its attacker until it backs down.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Trivinea consist of a hardy stem branching into three, each having its own large leaf with glowing spots on the tips. There are also two smaller leaves on the sides of the stem, glowing brighter than the rest. In the crevices of the plant's stem there are small flower-like structures covering its spore sacks.

Genetics and Reproduction

The glowing spots on a Trivinea's leaves are made to attract animals by giving off faint pulses into the surrounding waters. Once a herbivore attempts to eat the leaves, the Trivinea will release its spores into the surrounding waters, so that they stick to a creature's skin. After traveling with the creature for a while, the spores will fall off, either from the currents or from the creature manually brushing them off on a rock.

Growth Rate & Stages

Trivinea start out with only their three pudgy stalks poking out of the ground, but their leaves will start growing to full size as they age. In adulthood, they will grow their spore sacs, and their leaves will start glowing to complement this.

Ecology and Habitats

These plants are only found in the Fields of the Nightlight Zone, and exclusively grow in secluded rocky areas where the currents are unable to reach. Even so, their stems still have particularly wide bases for extra weight. They can commonly be found near the Fields' many pointed boulders, with some even growing in between the cracks in the boulders.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Trivinea are chemosynthetic just like most Nightlight Zone plants.

Biological Cycle

The flower petals covering the plant's spore sacs will fall off over time and pile up around the plant's base, where they will then start glowing and giving off the same signature pulses as the main leaves, at least for a solid amount of time.
