Headless Turkey Monster

The Headless Turkey Monster is a free floating creature in the Halocline Pits, feeding on almost anything it comes across. With its body as soft as it is, it protects itself with poisonous gel covering its skin, that only dissipates when the creature dies. There are a few predators that are immune to this poison, and so this sea cucumber will invest its time and energy into swimming in the off chance it encounters these predators. However, it doesn't swim very fast.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Headless Turkey Monsters have bulbous bodies with a circular mouth on the front end, ringed with sharp teeth. On its front end are tentacles with webbing in between them to help the creature propel itself, as well as small fins on its back side. Inside its mouth is a long proboscis with a small hook on the end of it, and around the mouth are jagged glowing streaks.

Genetics and Reproduction

Headless Turkey Monsters will attempt mating whenever they first meet another species, and because these creatures likely will not meet another member of their species in their lifetime, they will mate straight away without questioning the other. They will hook onto each other's rear ends during mating, then the mother will travel to the seabed to lay her batch of eggs on the ground. While the father leaves, the mother will stay behind to guard the eggs for a short time before she has to leave to feed herself. Several of the eggs will not survive, but they will be numerous enough that the species lives on.

Growth Rate & Stages

The young Headless Turkey Monsters will hatch without a mother, and spend much of their youths lying on the seabed, doing nothing but feed on plankton that passes by. These young will have to wait until their fins and tentacles grow in, and to defend themselves while they lie there, they'll excrete their poisonous gel into a pool around them. Eventually, they will become buoyant enough to float in the sparse ocean currents, and occasionally use their fins to manually swim through the water.

Ecology and Habitats

This species lives in the Pits, and can be found anywhere in the open waters above the seabed, rarely interacting with their environment at all. The only time these creatures will touch ground is to lay their eggs, or when they are first developing. Oftentimes their gel drips off of their skin, and pools on the sea floor, leaving noticeable marks in the rock. These creature's carcasses also have a tendency to get torn to bits by the halocline, due to lacking both a skeleton. Unlike most carcasses in the Nightlight Zone, theirs can be reduced to a few chunks of flesh in just about any scenario.

Dietary Needs and Habits

This species routinely feeds on Vilmacanthids, Deep Fruit, and plankton, though they are more likely to feed on plankton in their immature state. The Headless Turkey Monster can easily avoid the Deep Fruit's thorns, and pull the fruit out of the ground with its hooked proboscis. While the Vilmacanthids can easily harm these creatures with their spines, if one hooks its proboscis in just the right position, it can kill the victim instantly. Headless Turkey Monsters are unable to defend their meal from a competitor, and thus will try to consume it as fast as possible in the presence of other species.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

This species is blind, and uses its sense of smell to navigate its surroundings. While it can swim, it more often relies on the water to carry it to any given area.
