Black Tuber
Black Tubers are slightly small plants that grow in immense numbers, routinely fed on by certain inhabitants of its habitat. Their spore glands can shoot spores at high speeds, and because they are too frail to harm any nearby animal, this ability is more often used to reproduce quickly.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Black Tuber is a plant only consisting of a cluster of leaf-like structures, as well as an underground tuber for storing nutrients. The leaves appear similar to seagrass in the real world's oceans, and contain at least one leaf larger than the rest. The tuber consists of one round base, with three offshoots containing their own small roots.
Genetics and Reproduction
On the top of the tubers lay spore pouches which can launch spores a great distances away. Once herbivores find a large cluster of Black Tubers, they'll begin eating away at them, and the tubers will begin shooting spores far away from their cluster. Sometimes they will shoot several in the same direction. The spores are heavy enough that they create small dents in the ground when the land, in order for them to sink into the ground to take root.
Growth Rate & Stages
Once the spore of this plant grows large enough, it will create a small explosion to blow up the rock above it and clear a path for its leaves to grow. The leaves are the first things to grow, with the tubers only growing once the plant begins taking in the Nightlight Zone's nutrients. Once these plants mature, they will shoot spores a short distance away from them to create copies of itself, which create their own copies as time goes on. Eventually, they become an entire field of grass-like structures poking through the ground.
Ecology and Habitats
Black Tubers can only grow in the Halocline Pits, and they grow more often than not in large clusters. They most often grow in flat open areas where they have enough room to grow to these enormous groups, but they have also been found at the bases of large rocky structures, among other plants.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Black Tubers are chemosynthetic just like most Nightlight Zone plants.
