Suvet

Suvet is a term for a specific form of friendship identified in the culture of Nuana and Setre . A suvet bond is a close, strictly platonic friendship between two individuals. A pair of people in a suvet bond are collectively known as an ohmsuvet.

In Nuana

The Nuanat traditionally hold that the suvet bond arose from close pairs who would undertake the hunt together, though some have recently suggested that the bond is even older than Nuanat settlement of Tevhetra and the ritualization of the hunt.
Taking a suvet in Nuanat is of equal weight as taking a spouse. Like marriage, a suvet bond is cemented by a formal ceremony in front of witnesses and are legally registered. If one has both a suvet and a spouse, it's usually expected that said suvet and spouse will be different genders to each other, but it is not enforced or even considered odd to have a suvet and spouse as the same gender as each other. Breaking a suvet bond is also a legal action that usually takes time and a lot of questioning to ensure the ohmsuvet isn't functioning. Once broken, two Nuanat cannot legally become ohmsuvet with each other again.
Ohmsuvet are expected to be fully honest and open with each other and accompany each other into dangerous situations even when spouses or family members would not do so. It is unusual for a Nuanat elf to take a suvet of another species, but is quietly tolerated, and is one of the few conditions in which a non-elf may be welcomed into the Wild Hunt.

In Setre

Traditionally, the Setret are very casual about intimate relationships and see no necessary connection between emotional bonds and physical intimacy. Marriage is considered a very deep act of romantic love, and it is not uncommon for Setret to never marry. As such, taking a suvet relationship is meant to ensure that one always has a close friend and confidant they can always turn to. The Setret consider it very strange for someone to not have a suvet by middle age, taking it as a sign that they have isolated themselves from everyone. A suvet is almost always with someone outside the family, as it is meant to be different than a familial relationship, and suvet bonds across species are not uncommon. While the suvet bond is not as formalized as it is in Nuana, but it can be legally recorded similar to a marriage, though this is mostly used for providing citizenship to a suvet born outside of Setre.

Translation

Suvet literally translates from Theen to "somebody" in Aphelian. However, many Aphelian-speakers find that awkward-sounding, especially for such an important concept.
Some Torugk  speakers choose to translate suvet as glurk(s/v)ugul, which literally means "bondmate". However, since bondmate is specifically used to refer to the relation between Sluth and their hosts, Theen speakers tend to reject this translation. The literal translation of "somebody" in Torugk is nyran.
