Lady of Hubris, The Divine Prisoner, Master of Vile Knowledge, She Who Cries in Secret

General Information

The Witch of Many Hands was one of three mortals that ascended to Divinity before The Great Storm. Unlike the other two, her divine mantle and her domains were forced upon her and is kept prisoner by Lilith, The Spider Queen within the Dungeon of Demonweb.

(Common knowledge)

The witch was once a human woman during the Division Wars that had learned forbidden magic so powerful that she began to rise to godhood. Once she reached a level of divinity, her mortal identity was erased from existence akin to the Raven Queen but did not replace any preexisting god. She is known for her mass of shadowy arms that would strangle anyone that attempted to harm her, and being the mortal enemy of Leandro.

After the Division Wars, she was sent to the evil plains because of her attempts to kill all the gods and is thought to be scheming with The Spider Queen.

As a goddess of mistrust, even fellow followers are weary of each other, and often kill each other.

(Very rare information)

Because her life was surrounded by the horrific war between the gods, she grew a hatred towards them and when she began to grow her god-like power, she would attempt to eradicate them to save mankind and let them take the reins of the mortal realm.

She was best friends or even in love with Leandro, admiring his resolve to protect his people and would attempt to follow in his footsteps in hopes to win his affection.

She would create hollowmancy, a very rare and volatile school of magic that would be considered an even greater disgrace than necromancy. Rather than force the soul to serve a body, the soul is “hollowed out” within the body and takes physical form into what is known as shadowfallen. She only created this magic as a means to permanently kill the gods and have them consumed, it was never meant for humans.

When she would create a shadowfallen out of the body of a now forgotten Betrayer god, she would realize the mistake she made as the now Dusk Titan began to consume her love’s homeland. Even though this happened, Leandros still came to rescue her and worked together against the titan not only to save his home but to save the woman he loved.

When the battle was over and the divine gate became established, the betrayer’s last act of cruelty was to drag the witch into the evil plains with them and force her to take the mantle of the fallen betrayer, as the god of vile magic. Knowing what the witch had done, the divine circles did not intervene in this but Leandro was the only god that attempted to stop this.

Her curse to this day is to sit in the web-covered jails within the Spider Queen’s domain as a prisoner, and to be known throughout history as an evil witch as terrible as the betrayers themselves.

  • worshippers: there are many who claim to serve The Witch but a majority are lied to in this way. those that understand her as an evil entity and act accordingly are actually serving the Spider Queen without their knowledge.
  • The rare few that have actually had a connection to the witch via lasting contact with Leandros’ wild magic or other circumstances learn of her true nature which is much kinder and sadder than perceived. Because of The Witch’s curse cast by the spider queen, however, they are not able to say anything about her true nature and any attempt in doing so will have them killed by a magic strangling. This has lead to many true followers of her falling silent when anyone questions their deity. Her title as a god of mistrust is not because she is untrustworthy, but because those who follower her will never have the trust of those around her due her status as betrayer and their forced secrecy.

(Impossibly rare information)

The dead betrayer god the witch possessed did not die. Though he shed a corpse, his “soul” simply moved to a different body as a means of escaping the limelight of godhood and becoming a secret even the gods do not know about. Even “followers” of the witch that are manipulated by the spider queen are being manipulated even more subtly by Vecna, as a method of returning to the mortal plain as a ruler of raw evil.

Divine Domains

Forbidden Magic:

Once the wizard that mastered forbidden magic, she now has divine dominion of a unique class of arcana. She is the keeper of spell-craft that disregard the fundamental (and often moral) laws of existence. Rituals to ascend to godhood, lichdom, Time travel, and the like. She knows every spell, ritual, and device of this nature and keeps omniscient knowledge of these all out of reach, even from the god of knowledge. Her true followers act as guardians or destroyers of these magics, ensuring that anything within her list of what is forbidden stays out of the hands of any being, regardless if they are good or evil; even to the point of killing them if they have already acquired these spells in knowledge. They worship her as a diety of humility despite knowing world-changing power and strive to practice the same humility and restraint.

Mistrust:

This is a domain that was thrust upon her by the betrayers as she rose to divinity as it is essentially a curse, forcing her and her true followers to fall silent on the true nature of her character, alignments, and standing; causing her and her true followers to be mistrusted and avoided as betrayers of mortality forever. As a means of keeping this domain true, anyone who knows the true nature of the witch is forever cursed to secrecy; leaving anyone magically strangled when attempting to speak the truth. Due to being restrained in the Demonweb dungeon, she has no control over this domain and cannot stop the effects of its curse on mortals. She would not abandon this domain If she were to free herself, however, bending its power of secrecy to ensure her followers that safeguard forbidden magic are completely incapable to sharing those secrets in any capacity.

The Infinite Unknown:

The Witch's power in this domain is a paradox that can never be measured as it is the complete control of all things unknown, not just including knowledge and ideas; but the infinite Eldritch that reign across the unknown. She is the secret guardian against aberrations and cosmic horrors that could destroy the world as soon as they were an idea in the minds of a single mortal and the warden of the unperceived to mortals and gods alike. Her true followers worship her as this guardian, seeking her guidance when facing the unknown as well as her aid in knowing what should and should not be learned in a world full of vile secrets.

Dominate the Forbidden: Seek out uncovered forbidden knowledge of the world to ensure it is never used in hubris. Though it seems hypocritical to learn of things that should be forgotten, it is impossible to keep that knowledge out of people's hands if you do not know of it yourself. Therefore, dominate every forbidden art and ensure when you reach the end of your life that it can die with you.

Live true despite mistrust: Do not let the misinformed perception of you cloud you of who you really are. Do not let approval from others fuel your ambitions, rather act in spite of those that would hate you because it it.

Have faith in the unknown: Do not fear what you don't understand nor destroy yourself to understand it. She is strongest in the things you don't know and will hold your hand in your blindness.

History

Both mortals that were close friends before The Divine War, They both admired their attempts toward the betterment of mortality and each other as individuals, to the point of love.   Despite being taken away as a betrayer and her domain of distrust, Leandros still loves her deeply and seeks to free her while The Witch had given up thinking he hates her like the rest of the world does. That was up until the war against Blackbeard, in which a paladin of Leandros in his dying breath was able to send a servant of The Witch a message between the two gods that he still loved her.

History

After The Witch succeeded in slaying one of the betrayers as a mortal, it was Lilith's idea to force the empty seat Vecna left as a god onto her; not only fill that required dominion over evil magic, not just to suppress the power of this new goddess who's domain could attempt to usurp them as Vecna did, but simply hatred of this mortal that surpassed them and the sadistic joy of having her existence as a mortal erased and dragging them to the dark pit they'd all be sent to for eternity.
