The Geopolitical Systems of The New World

The campaign setting of The New World, that being mostly the world of Haven, with some inroads to the "old world" of Otone have several layers of political intrigue. All these layers are viewed from the perspective of someone who is a native citizen of The Empire of Sand, which is where all members of the party originated.   The layers are as follows:
  • Known Organizations - these are kingdoms, empires, factions that are generally known to the average traveler of Obrax. Their names are not necessarily always household names, but they are groups people are aware of.
  • Unknown Organizations - these are kingdoms or factions that aren't necessarily hiding, but just haven't really been widely discovered yet by many people.
  • Hidden Organizations - these are factions who are actively attempting to prevent knowledge of their existence from leaking into the wider world. Many of these organizations tend to be aggressive in protecting their existences.
In the following tables please note that relationships shows how the main organization feels about the second organization. For example:

Kingdom 1

  Relationships:
  • Criminals - a slight annoyance but nothing worth putting a lot of effort into
Would mean that Kingdom sees Criminals as a slight annoyance. So this table shows how Kingdom views Criminals, not the other way around.   Also Note:
  • unknown - the party does not know if there is a relationship between the two organizations
  • no relationship - the party knows there is no relationship between the two organizations
  • no knowledge - the party knows the main organization is largely unaware of the second organization

The Empire of Sand

The Empire of Sand is the largest and indeed only empire on the continent Dashinal, on the world of Otone. It is full of massive ancient cities, and was once a wellspring of culture and growth. However in recent decades overpopulation and food shortages have caused civil unrest across the empire.   Relationships:
  • The Iron Sisters are considered not even worth notice. The Empire is aware of them and their activities but they are so inconsequential in relation to other organizations in the Empire.
  • The Curling Spire is favored heavily by the Empire. They have been a source of wisdom and knowledge on things magical, and, recently, a source of troops as well.
  • Obrax was once a duchy of the Empire. About a decade ago, the Empire decided it was too difficult to continue to maintain that close of a connection, and spun them off as a vassal kingdom. Though the recent battle at First Landing indicates that the Empire may be wanting to change that relationship.
  • The Faceless - no relationship
  • The Horde - no knowledge
  • The Church of Purity - no knowledge
  • The Eternal Empire - unknown
  • The Golden Kingdom - no knowledge
  • The Purity Defenders - likely no knowledge, though they are more public than the The Church of Purity.
  • The Dragon Clans - no knowledge
  • The Conclave - largely knowledge, though their troops assist Obrax in the current war.
  • Harbinger - no knowledge

Obrax

The kingdom of Obrax occupies the south-west corner of the continent of New Otone, on the world of Haven. It was thought to be alone on this world, connected only to The Empire of Sand via The Obrax Portal until very recently. It is full of explorers and adventurers, as well as a good deal of untouched land.   Relationships:

The Iron Sisters

The Iron Sisters are a criminal organization that originated in The Empire of Sand but has flourished in Obrax.   Relationships:

The Curling Spire

The Curling Spire is widely touted as the only magician's guild, a place of learning and understanding.   Relationships:
  1. The Empire of Sand generally considered a patron of the Spire, the Empire and Spire have coexisted for millennia.
  2. The Iron Sisters - unknown
  3. Obrax was once home to a Spire tower. This tower has since vanished, and the Spire seems to be helping The Empire of Sand in its war against Obrax.
  4. The Faceless - unknown
  5. The Horde - no knowledge
  6. The Church of Purity - no knowledge
  7. The Eternal Empire - unknown
  8. The Golden Kingdom - unknown
  9. The Purity Defenders - unknown
  10. The Dragon Clans - unknown
  11. The Conclave - unknown
  12. Harbinger  - unknown

The Faceless

The Faceless are a group thought to be a rival criminal organization to The Iron Sisters. However very little is known about them.   Relationships:

The Horde

Not much is known about the Horde. Like the Church of Purity, their dealings are very secretive.   Relationships:

The Church of Purity

Not much is known about the Church of Purity. Like the Horde, their dealings are secretive. The Purity Defenders have broken away from the Church and the Church hunts them.   Relationships:

The Eternal Empire

The Eternal Empire takes up most of the continent of New Otone. They are ruled by The Conclave, but it is unclear if The Conclave are a ruling class, a faction, or something else within the Empire.   Relationships:

The Golden Kingdom

Almost nothing is known about this kingdom, except it exists somewhere on Haven, and The Dragon Clans make it their home.   Relationships:

The Purity Defenders

The Purity defenders are a splinter group from The Church of Purity, determined to wound the Tarrasque, even if they die in the attempt.   Relationships:

The Dragon Clans

The Clans are a loose organization of clans that are constantly in a sort of cold war with each other, and tend to be violent to outsiders who go spreading word about their existance.   Relationships:

The Conclave

The Conclave has been mentioned in conjunction with The Eternal Empire, but appears to be a separate entity.   Relationships:

Harbinger

Harbinger is an organization that appears to be dedicated to protecting balance, similar to the Clans, but not in the same invasive manner.   Relationships:
