Thaumaturgic Compressor
There is nothing in this world that pushes ingenuity beyond the previous threshold quite like tragedy's sweeping tidal wave. They began quarantining off particular neighborhoods where concentrations of Sailor's Bane had been found. Entire households were falling prey to whatever was the transmission method for this disease, and many people fell victim to the Bane-induced coma. Streets grew empty as people feared what was happening, and retreated to their abodes to protect themselves and their loved ones. Even more troubling was how still only the Upper Sephugos was being impacted by this. And because the important people in Areceldo were being affected, more time and money was put into resolving it.
Donovan Trent initially made the connection. Sailor's Bane's mechanism and catalyst is technically magical, but not any sort of recognizable school of magic. Entirely foreign, entirely alien, it did not even lie within the realm of necromancy. Utterly different. Though Donovan doesn't understand the method of transmission entirely, Donovan does however understand the law of Accordial Balance (secretly the Reconditus Force, the power of Ebb & Flow, also referred to as the Ocean's Call). Old scholars theorized that magic push and pulled on particular magical ley lines that carried magic potential throughout the material plane. Though an older school of thought, it was biting at the edge of something perhaps more accurate. The Law of Accordial Balance (Ebb & Flow, the Ocean's Call) helps Donovan understand that to counteract something entirely foreign and unnaturally, you need to use something inherently natural. And that's where Donovan's time studying the records of Alamar Bay came into play. He remembered visiting a particular postman to send back some of his letters back to his medicinal practice in Areceldo.
With one of Shodo's bird's feathers, and with a machine built by Donovan's medical practice (or perhaps with some help from a particular Artificer), the Thaumaturgic Compressor was born. A medical machine the first of its kind, it's essentially a giant press laid in with runes and tubes and glass vials. The user places an item in the chamber, a giant stone crusher slowly moves down and compresses the item, specially focusing on the magical aura that the item emits. It thickens that magical potential with a base solution, transfers through a series of tubes, and pours the concoction into a glass vial. This process expends the item placed in the Compressor, and it takes time to go through process. But at the end result, it is a machine capable of extracting magic from items into a purified form.
If the wrong people were to get wind of this, it could mean trouble for Donovan Trent.
