Yanell Tamarind is a diplomat of the Queen's Consulate. She has returned after many cycles after being held captive in a Kanite facility, and has returned home to Goddessflight to re-establish herself within a government that has largely moved on. Yanell's historical significance in peace efforts between the Demshul and the Kanites is well-known in both governments, and makes her massively loved by some and targeted for assassination by others.

Abilities:

• Prime Essence Manipulation: Yanell is exceptionally strong magically, and can make large essence manipulation fields and blast away any who approach her with powerful beams of raw energy. She can and has held off channeling Avatars of Madir this way.
• Diplomacy: Yanell's intelligence, knowledge and empathy are practiced and deliberate, and she has many reconciliation tactics at her disposal.
• Combat Fan: Yanell carries a Kanite combat fan around her neck at all times, and can use it to slice her way through obstacles where magic would not be appropriate.

Yanell's work consumes all of her energy, and it has a cost of forming closer connections to those around her. She can only afford relationships for a brief moment to impart her wisdom, and then she is gone. She never goes where she wants, only where she knows she is needed, and never stays in the same place with the same people for too long. Those who try to get too close to Yanell almost always have an unsavory reason, so she's convinced herself it's better this way, too.
Yanell's body language involves straight-backed, formal posture, and a respectful amount of physical distance.

Personal history

Yanell arrived as a teenager to the Demshul Worlds. Rumor has it she was born on a corrupted world, though how she survived has never been divulged. If her self-taught powers, honed by training on Goddessflight, were not enough, her remarkable leadership skills made her integration into the Tamarind family extremely easy. At the height of her influence and popularity, she lead delegations to many Kanite worlds, diffusing even the most tense conflicts and earning herself an aura of celebrity status. This proved to put many targets on her back, and she was eventually trapped by Pelamoi Amarenzi in the crystal caves of Diem Farella, transformed by her potions into a giant bird-like beast. Astyr, Sydney, Rana, and Sonia were able to expose this plot and return her to her human form and power with an antidote potion.
Taking control, Yanell had almost subdued her captor when Pelamoi was eaten by a giant pigeon. Yanell quickly took it upon herself to jump back to Goddessflight to find a trap for the pigeon, but found herself in the corrupted version with Morphids overwhelming her. She was able to find a portion of the world that led her to the new Goddessflight, but inadvertently let more Morphids through. After Astyr, Sydney and Rana contained them inside a Wingbucks store, Yanell led the local authorities in to get rid of the Morphids, but Astyr teleported them again before she had a chance to act.
Once Yanell got resettled, she was upset to learn from Dionne how many Demshul worlds had been attacked by Kanites in her time away. Rana reached out to her shortly after when Wilton locked down the Outback, which led Yanell to investigate. Yanell arrived to find a breach in Lydia Korsica's factory where Rana, Sydney and Astyr escaped, which she attempted to help defend against Morphid hoards who Astyr had brought along. When Argus and the Illuminata Brigada arrived to also help, Yanell was able to contain them. Seeing potential for peace in her contact with Argus, Yanell and Argus reached and agreement for Argus to mend the tear in the weave for Yanell to give him more information about Rana.
Shortly after this, Atonia fell and Yanell found herself defending the Demshul of the world against a raging Madir, succeeding but draining her power. As she recovered in the Batallia Tavern, Dionne arrived to check on her and open communications with the Queen's Consulate. In an effort to protect Argus, she deliberately downplayed the conflict and tried to persuade the Consulate things to keep the peace, upon which the Consulate asked Dionne to assassinate her. Dionne was able to sap her power, but Kazar was able to save Yanell before she died.
After spending a moment in Kazar's listening post catching up, she took the restrained Wilton and Dionne with the intent of returning to Goddessflight. However, Soronette's vines brought them all to the corrupted Nualgion, where they were unable to escape or communicate with the Queen's Consulate. Searching the world for a solution, they stumbled into Soronette's field, where Wilton and Dionne were captured by a giant cup of Wingbucks coffee and a giant toaster, respectively. Yanell herself was about to be ensnared, but Fedros was able to kill the vines with Kazar's potion and lead her to safely regroup outside Soronette's field.

History

Kazar has been an avid follower Yanell's career for years, and watches her in a fangirlish mix of inspiration and obsession. With her sudden disappearance (claimed death), Kazar was one of the minority who believed she was still out there.
When Kazar met Sonia, she learned that Yanell had been held captive on Diem Farella and her fervor renewed. When Kazar travelled to the Batallia Tavern to find Fedros, she spied the impossible: Yanell Tamarind herself, battle-worn in a backroom resting. Kazar placed a recording device on the window and overheard Dionne's conversation with Yanell, and made arrangements with her other captive Kanite allies and Tenge to break through and rescue her just before she was assassinated.
Yanell returned to consciousness in Kazar's listening post, and caught up with her role in her rescue as well as her relationship with Sonia. Yanell remains thankful for Kazar for saving her life, and maybe secretly a little flattered in a world where nobody remembers or wants her that someone is on her side. (At least enough to let Kazar use her speech as a ringtone.)
