Deity

"A god is what you are, little one. Gods were entities of creation and destruction. They were power incarnate. They created entire universes, and were worshipped by thousands, to even quintillions of beings across the multiverse!"   -The system, explaining to Althos what the gods were and also what he is.
What little is known of the gods has thus been given information either given to Althos by the system or are Althos' own inferences based on his life.   Authors note:   This article, like every other article on this wiki, is a living article. It is constantly updated with new information and contains spoilers. Eventually, it'll contain reference notes to which chapters in which the information was first established, in-universe, but for now, just remember that navigating this wiki comes with spoilers.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Gods had an incredible diversity of form. Some gods were humanlike in appearance, but many weren't. It is unknown, at this time, what caused gods to look the way they look, and Althos' possession of a "wild trait" (unique, innate, traits that are possessed by the gods) entitled "Shapeless One" suggests that other gods had true forms and his lack of a true form is one thing that sets him apart from his fellow deities.

Genetics and Reproduction

Gods are capable of successfully mating with other higher-beings. It is unknown if a god is capable of successfully mating with non-higher-beings like mortals or extraplanars. Gods can also come into being spontaneously, without parents, as Althos did.

Growth Rate & Stages

At least one attempt to quantify the life-stages of gods has been made. That attempt was made during the mysterious period of history known only as the mythic age, and on the bottom rung of godly power and life were the newborn gods.   It appears, based on Althos own experiences that gods are born relatively fully formed, albeit weak in comparison to their older kin. When Althos went from being a newborn god to a lesser god, he was just three days old. When he threw off the shackles of the "tutorial", a power that the system possessed to lock away Althos' inborn abilities and forced him to learn how to control his power and earn what he felt was rightfully his, he abruptly underwent a transformation from a newborn god to a lesser god.   As a newborn god, he was fairly limited in his ability to make use of his abilities being unable to access even his inborn powers without permission granted to him by the system. He couldn't even teleport from place to place! As a lesser god he possesses powers like the mysterious domain-sense power, immunity to shape-changing spells cast by other people, immunity to acid, disease, and poison, and a wide variety of other powers.

Ecology and Habitats

As far as Althos can tell, gods are either well-suited to many different sorts of environments innately or quickly become well-adapted to such environments.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Gods gain some manner of mysterious power from their worshipers, and they can bestow their worshipers with all manner of powers ranging from blessings to classes, to the ability to cast spells. Gods, or at least Althos, don't need to eat or even necessarily need worshippers but they do get stronger from being worshipped so it benefits them to pursue worshippers. Such worshippers need not be mortal, and oftentimes the act of creating creatures, mortal or not, brings with it the worship of the created beings.

Biological Cycle

Gods are functionally immortal, possessing ageless spirits and forms that render them utterly unaffected by the passage of time.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Gods possess all five senses that humanoids possess. Gods above a certain threshold of power also possess something called a "Domain-sense" which enables them to know when someone involving a domain they have influence over. For instance, a god of healing would sense whenever someone somewhere uses a healing spell, creates medicine, or attempts to speed natural healing to heal someone more efficiently. The effects of this power increase in strength as a god matures and becomes a stronger god.   Certain domains and subdomains also come with enhanced sensory abilities, such as one of the passive powers of the earth subdomain, which is the tremorsense power. This power allows those who possess it to detect all creatures walking on solid ground within a certain range of them. This range increases as the god acquires more influence over the earth subdomain and grows in overall divine strength.

Throughout all of history, gods had existed. Gods had existed and lorded over their kin of lesser power, a collective of species that included demon lords, archdevils, archfey, and other cosmically powerful beings that collectively were known as the "Higher Beings". Gods ruled all of these creatures, until the end of the incredibly long era known as the "Mythic Age", gods were the undisputed lords of the multiverse.   The "Mythic Age" ended abruptly, half a million years ago, with a cataclysmic battle that destroyed all higher-beings. It didn't just wipe out the gods, it made all higher-beings go extinct. Or at least it did... until Althos spontaneously came to life.
