The full moon race

History

Originally the race was a way for the local boys to prove themselves. When the rumor spread it became more and more about your home village taking the price. When it became big enough that seven villages and over 60 boys (and some particularly athletic girls) took part the adults started to catch wind of it. While originally trying to outright ban the sport, they soon realized that wouldn't work. Instead, people began making it more official, having a real track and the local doctor on standby.

Execution

The full moon race starts deep in the forest, in between the participating villages. Around the start and finish line, there's a lot of people of all ages. Along the track, you can find several volunteers making sure no one hurt themselves. Each village gets it's own start to not have too many people on the track at the same time. Every individual is timed to be put on the leaderboard. The first stretch is all about moving through difficult terrain and doesn't have a set path to follow. Next part involves climbing on the big cliffs East of the forest. At the top, the competitors have to jump down into the river and swim upstream all the way to the bridge. The last part is following the gravelroad back to the startline.

Components and tools

The track is marked out by poles painted in different colors corresponding to the different elements of the track. Hourglasses are also used for measuring the time taken by the competitors.

Participants

Volunteers are positioned along the track to make sure no one is cheating or otherwise get hurt. The local doctors are also on standby in case something were to happen. There isn't really any rules about who can participate as a competitor, but most are younger men.

Observance

The race takes place every other full moon

Author's Notes

Hello! And thank you for reading my article!
This was made during the Summer Camp 2018 challenge. I won't be editing any of these to keep them for looking back on. That being said some I'm really not happy with, so I'll most likely put up an edited version at some point. If I do you will be able to find the link on the top of the page
