Cinder Empire

The Cinder Empire is one of the oldest civilisations in existence, as such, it has a rich, ancient history that spans the rise and fall of many kings and lords.
Early History - The Cinder Empire was formed in Bolutar, the first city, where the first forms of magic were discovered. This magic was a raw, chaotic force that came from the user's soul, and it was used frugally to create miracles and wonders unlike anything ever seen, and the magics became a point of worship in the eyes of many.
At some point, a large group of pilgrims ventured out from civilisation to find the source of this power, where they were driven far East, across miles of empty land, until they came upon the dark, orderless hellscape of the Abysslands, which oozed with the same chaotic power prevalent in their soul-magic. This realisation caused a great divide in the pilgrims, some of them reveled in the discovery, while others were detested by it; although despite their differences, the pilgrims travelled back to Bolutar to tell of their findings. The two halves of the divide only grew further apart, and soon enough, a great civil war started.

The Civil War - Those who rejected their dark, soul-driven powers formed together and rose up against the people who still embraced their abyssal roots, but they were vastly outnumbered, and the magic used by the Bolutarians proved a powerful asset that they simply couldn't match. The now named Irith Rebellion fled Bolutar, venturing north into unexplored lands, where they found a ruin, upon which was sculpted the visage of a great unknowable creature. In their desperation, the Irithans prayed to the monument, hoping that it would give them some scrap of power to use against the Bolutarians.
As they poured whatever soul energy they had clung onto into the monument, their prayers were answered by an apocalyptic, world-changing event, caused by the violent appearance of a cosmic being. An incomprehensibly large serpent-like creature soared over the world, laying destruction and waste to Bolutar in an event that shattered and sundered the lands, forever changing and scarring the world; it broke apart the land, forming continents and islands: it burned large spans of land with the vile Moonscorch, and it brought upon a thick mist that would appear wherever there was no life. This event, The Cosmic Sundering, and the effects it had caused, forced the Bolutarians to respond with dramatic means.

The Kiln of Fire - The Bolutarians had been decimated by the acts of the Irithans, and so they set out to construct a colossal vessel of power that would give them the means to destroy the Irithan Kingdom. What they built became what is now known as the Kiln of Fire, a humongous super-weapon fueled by a direct link to the abyssal plane. The first order to be filled out after its completion was to attempt to infuse some of its energy into soldiers, to create a series of great beings that could harness far-higher levels of abyssal power; the result of this was the monumentals.
The very first subject of this experiment was the great warrior Kymar. He was exposed to an extortionate level of abyssal energy from the Kiln, causing him to grow incredibly powerful, to the point of being considered a deity. The other Monumentals created were able to hold far less of its power, although they were still a force to be reckoned with.
The next order was to prepare the Kiln to fire at Irith, although this was never carried through, as the Irithans surrendered to Kymar and his new army days after their first invasion. The Kingdom of Irith was ordered to be torn down and destroyed, but the new General, Kymar, advised the leaders against this; they vehemently disagreed with him, as in their eyes, Irith had destroyed the world, and were irredeemable.
Kymar, realising his opportunity, killed the stubborn leaders of Bolutar, and claimed the empire for himself, forming Irith into a vassalised state and leading the new Cinder Empire into a great age of prosperity.
