Laranlac Wanderer

For centuries, Laranlas kept itself hidden from the rest of society, even the Elves of Ansrivarr. Only the beasts and birds, and the fey-touched creatures of Laranlas know its secrets. Laranlac society appears, on the surface, to lean towards the whimsical – but you know that this masks its true identity: fierce forest guardians who will fight tooth and nail for their home and loved ones. In recent years, Laranlas has sought to ingratiate itself more with the other nations of the Manylands, but still uphold the secretive nature of the High Council and their treetop communities. Have you tired of the green backdrop of the forest, seeking to see more of the world? Are you searching for treasure, or someone dear? Or are you looking for climes even higher than the great city of Laran?

Languages: Sylvan (or one other if known)
Equipment: a Climber’s kit, a tiny beast companion (ask your DM what would be suitable), a set of traveller’s clothes, and a belt pouch containing 10gp.
Feature: Treewalker – Laranlas is a vast network of walkways and tree-dwelling communities. Entire cities are suspended amongst the great forest, and almost unreachable to outsiders. You know the secret routes like the back of your hand, and can whisper to the wildlife about those you don’t yet know. You gain +5 to all climbing checks, and have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed. In addition, you can Speak with Animals as a ritual, meaning you’re never truly alone.
Variant: Laranlac Commando – instead of a wanderer, you were a sworn protector of Laranlas, carrying out many discretionary tasks for the High Council. You are but a shadow in the trees, a rustle in the leaves, a knife in the dark. Are you still in service, on a secret mission for the High Council? Are you looking to gain experience to improve your rank and status? Or did you leave Laranlas in secret, deciding that the role of a Commando was not for you?
