Iskan Trader
The various cities dotted around the desert plains of Isk are an oasis of life and activity, and quite possibly the centre of commerce within the entirety of the Manylands. As such, it can be difficult to stand out as a trader in the marketplace. But not for you. You know the games to play, the subtle ways to draw attention to your wares over others. Colourful displays, skits, and enticing offers are all part of the charm. But now you find yourself out on the road. Are you in search of exotic supplies or better suppliers? Have you fallen foul of one of the many Guilds of The Golden Road Consortium that control Isk? Or are you maybe looking to start a business somewhere new, to bring something exciting to a dreary part of the Manylands?
Skill Proficiencies: Persuasion, Performance
Tool Proficiencies: one type of tools (choose from one set of Artisan’s tools, Navigator’s tools or Thieves’ tools)
Languages: one of your choice
Equipment: a set of tools (one of your choice), an iron box with a key, a letter of introduction from your guild, a set of fine clothes, and a belt pouch containing 15gp.
Feature: Guild Associate – setting up shop in Isk, it wasn’t long before you were approached by one of the many guilds of The Golden Way Consortium, the group that dominates the desert nation. You’re no fool, and know that friends in high places are always valuable. You have become an associate of one of these Iskan guilds. Choose from: The Red Sons (mercenaries), The Golden Guild (merchants), Mason’s Guild (builders and labourers), Alchemist’s Guild (potion and magic item crafters), The Aelin (smiths and forgers) or Winds and Wings (couriers and printing press). Each of these grant particular benefits with organisations in Isk and throughout the Manylands. These can vary from discounts on certain items, to gaining audience with influential people, and potential allies. Be wary though, some of the Guilds also have enemies in the Manylands, whilst some Guilds are unheard of outside of Isk.
Variant: Swindler – whilst many make an honest living as a trader in Isk, this wasn’t enough for you. You know how underhanded some of the most powerful merchants can be, and you’re not fool enough to not want a piece of the action yourself. You may openly con people into buying knock-off goods, sell counterfeit documents, or even case certain rich customers, waiting for the right moment to loot their homes. Has your swindling caught up with you, and forced you to leave town? Or are you looking for even more high profile targets elsewhere in the Manylands?
NOTE: swap Persuasion for Deception, as well as tools and proficiency for a Forgery kit, Disguise kit or Thieves’ tools along with proficiency in it.
