Declunn

God of the Afterlife

Death/Grave Domain

“We offer this soul to you, Declunn. May you offer them safe passage to the afterlife, and may your bell herald their passing” – a Priest of The Crow Flies, during a funeral ceremony.   If Agrafall is feared by many, Declunn is feared by most. Some early depictions of Declunn show him as a skeletal shepherd dressed all in black. It is rumoured that when Declunn is present there is no sound except one solitary bell – and when the bell tolls, it can only mean one thing: death. It is believed that in life Declunn never showed emotion, nor spoke, but wherever he treads death soon followed. His touch would wilt flowers, make fungus rise from the earth, and turn even the warmest air bitterly cold. When a soul passed from the world, though they may be guided by Spark’s light, it is ultimately Declunn who welcomes them at the gates to the afterlife.   The most feared symbol of all The Eight is the skeletal hand holding a bell – Declunn’s symbol. It is for the dead that Declunn’s bell tolls, and as such Temples in the Manylands mark funeral ceremonies with a bell also. It is a mark of respect, meant to ward bad spirits away, and alert Declunn to the passing of another soul. Those who follow Declunn have a greater understanding than most on the transition between life and death – they may not fear death like most, but they know that it is a necessary before passing to the Afterlife.
