Burakrin Scholar
From the vast libraries and archives of Arausamman, to the Observatory of Ilurbarak, you have lived a life of study, taking no greater joy than in the acquisition of knowledge. Burakrin is a chasm of history, political intrigue and wealth – discuss with your DM which area of study, and therefore which of the great cities, most suits your character. Were you a well-established political figure, who’s since retired from service? A dynamic historian, just starting to write your own book on ancient Burakrin culture? Or maybe a disillusioned clerk, tired of mediocre desk jobs, and looking for new thrills in the open world?
Skill Proficiencies: History, Investigation
Languages: Dwarvish (or one other if known)
Equipment: a small jewelled trinket, three Dwarvish tomes about studies of interest in Burakrin (history, politics, religion), one common magic item (your choice, up to the value of 50gp), a set of fine clothes, and a coin purse containing 25gp.
Feature: Position of Influence – you’ve gathered a bit of a name for yourself, rubbing shoulders with many influential people throughout Burakrin. You can gain an audience with many members of higher society within Burakrin, and may well be able to gain information or assistance that others may not, including food or lodgings. In addition, your name is known in many establishments of good repute in Burakrin, and you may be offered discounts from certain vendors.
Variant: Burakrin Converted – the great temples of Hamarfaern and, of course, in the capital city Runedar, welcome you with open arms. You have spent many years in service to the Greater Deities (The Great Eight), and the High Priests know you by name. Your position as a Convert grants you free lodgings when you visit many of Burakrin’s temples, as well as sway with their religious figures.
NOTE: switch Investigation proficiency for Religion, add a holy symbol to equipment, and, as a Converted, your coin purse only contains 15gp.
