Retrospective on the Spanish Wars

At the occasion of the 20 years anniversary of our second victory over Spain, let us look back on the wars and their consequences

First Spanish War 1800-1810
Summary:
  • Cause: Ownership of a mine in the Pyrénnées with minerals containing a newly discovered metal with important magical applications (xxx). The mine belonged to France and Spain tried to steal it from us.
  • Length: 10 years
  • Deaths: 24,653 French, 50,000 Spaniards
  • Spoils: Ownership of the mine, of a nearby platinoid mine, and of an important fortress in the mountains. Border moved south. As part of its alliance with us against Spain, the Flemish Kingdom renounced all of its claims to Lille.
  •   In perspective:
  • His Majesty King Bernard was aged 35 years old at the start of the war and 45 by the end.
  • Prof. Tison, now of the University of Lille, joined the army at 23 years old in 1805 and was 28 years old by the end.
  •     How the war unfolded:

This war was long and deadly for both countries. The first year was full of quick movements and battles on both sides of the border, with Spain occupying Southern France on the Mediterranean and us occupying Northern Spain on the Atlantic.

However, after this every stalled and a long siege war started. It was only during the last 2 years of the war that we managed to turn events around thanks to war heroes such as His Majesty King Bernard (then colonel of the lone ace division and President of the University of Lille) and President Tison (then xxx of the artillery division). This offered us a decisive victory that allowed us to dictate the terms of the peace treaty.
        Important consequences:
  • His Majesty King Louis was injured during the final battle and died of his injuries soon afterwards.
  • His Majesty King Bernard and Prof Tison distinguished themselves highly during the war. His Majesty was naturally elected to succeed King Louis, while Prof Tison succeeded the king at the head of the University of Lille.
  • Second Spanish War 1826 -1830
    Summary:
  • Cause: Spain wanting revenge
  • Length: 4 years
  • Deaths: 15,469 French, 18,000 Spaniards
  • Spoils: A very hefty compensation price from Spain and all of their cutting-edge military equipment.
  •   In perspective:
  • His Majesty King Bernard was aged 56 years old at the start and 60 by the end.
  • The Dark Lord was aged 21 at the start, become leader of the lone ace division at 23 years old following the death of most of its officers, and was aged 25 by the end.
  •     How the war unfolded:

This war was shorter than the first war. Spain had a technological advantage and had invested heavily into cutting edge military equipment, and so they thought this and taking us by surprise would give them a quick, decisive victory.

They did inflict heavy losses upon us during the first two years, especially at the battle of Bordeaux where half of the lone ace division was annihilated, thus allowing Spain to occupy the Southern third of France.

This also gave the man that is now recognised as a Dark Lord the opportunity to take command of the lone ace division and work his terrible magic on the battlefield.

At the same time, His Majesty King Bernard managed to turn the situation around, rallying our army and quickly marching back on the enemies in Bordeaux to strike them before they could fully prepare and repair the destroyed wards of the city. Over the next 2 years, His Majesty then maintain his momentum all the way down to Madrid, which he successfully besieged, thu ending the war.
        Important consequences:
  • Reveal of the Dark Lord's evilness with the terrible magic he worked during the war while he was heading the lone ace division and his subsequent banishment from France by His Majesty.

I always love how biased these accounts are.

Thanks! France obviously was on the good side in this war, and it's the evil Spanish people who tried to steal our mines on our side of the mountains!   And of course, everyone loves the king and is very spontaneously expressing their adoration without any form of coercion at all :p
