Myconid

"I once slipped into Fay,
Knobs of 'room called to me;
One of them led me by day,
Another slayed for me;
In darkness, they rose to the edge of the sky..."   ~an old Ardaenian poem

Basic Information

Anatomy

Each myconid looks like a kind of mushroom. The only difference is that they have short little legs and a pair of thin but spiky arms. Older and leader types of myconids also have several spore pods that release spores that can pacify prey, stun enemies, and communicate with other myconids.

Growth Rate & Stages

As long as they are not in direct sunlight for much of the day and they can root into the ground, myconids can continue to grow to huge size. The larger they get, the more likely they are to be elected leaders of their colony.

Ecology and Habitats

These creatures can live nearly anywhere if they want to, and this is the reason that they are considered pests even by fellow Fay creatures. They have an instinctual urge to grow and spread, and they will take root anywhere and everywhere if they can.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Myconids create food and drink up water exactly like mushrooms do.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Each myconid has a specific task and will fulfill that task for the rest of its life, such as: leading the colony to water and shade; making decisions about colony size and delegation of tasks; and caring for younger myconids.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Some cultures that have common contact with these creatures often use the spores of these creatures to make potions of paralyzation or poisons.

Average Intelligence

They are all semi-intelligent and can broadcast emotions in some way. They can also feel pain and can detect other myconids' pain.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They have several small eyes, but they use a small amount of clairvoyance to see nearby living creatures. Some larger or older myconids have limited telepathic abilities so they can sense the minds of nearby creatures.

Conservation Status
As a demonic creature and an actively malevolent pest, they are often attacked when found and commonly attack back.
Average Height
2 foot tall or bigger.
Average Weight
25 lbs. or more.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
These creatures come in a variety of colours and even their shapes can vary widely.
