idYalk Liqueur

Stay away from the Yugosan breweries, if you can help it. The stuff that comes out of that place had better be watered down if you don't plan on seeing your Powers soon, har har!
— Yugosan trader, unprompted
Water is as rare as gold in the deserts of Yugos on Renath, and places to grow food are even rarer. But a few of the oasis towns in Yugos have turned what once was a local treat into a powerful trade commodity: alcohol.

Brewing

One of the most iconic symbols of the Yugos Desert to outsiders are the strange stone-like fruits that grow from the idYalk Tree. These large fruits have a wood-like outer shell that requires a great deal of stabbing to puncture, but the juice inside is refreshing enough on its own.   Some oasis towns with proper irrigation grow large groves of idYalk trees, collecting large stone jars of the juice. The locals then add a powder to the juice - the material's origin is a trade secret, although many theorize that it's similar to the paste added to butter to turn them into cheese. The jars are then buried in plots under the sand and left to slowly ferment for weeks. The result: a milk-like liquid with a strong sour taste and woody undertones.

Drinking Practices and Traditions

Among the Yugosans, the drinking of idYalk Liqueur is confined to certain holidays. The celebration of the end of the Gashir, the changing of the seasons, and the construction of the Clockwork Tower are the most common reasons for locals to crack out some jars. At the beginning of such festivals, it is customary to empty one's first sip onto the ground to give thanks to the gods who made such celebrations possible, then to give a short cheer of "eLikar!" before taking a good long drink.

Sale and Trade

idYalk Liqueur is hard to find outside of the Yugos Desert; the alcoholic beverage needs to be kept cold in order to halt the brewing process, which is naturally hard to do in a desert. Thanks to a combination of magical means and careful storage, thick wooden crates lined in magical metal can radiate enough cold to keep the beverage from spoiling.    As for purchasing the stuff, the price for even one jar of the stuff can easily be in the hundreds of talents in Zhoris or the Grequin Valley. Even farther-flung regions of Renath might not be able to get it at all, except for summonings or other magical means.
"Greetings, traveller! Would you like to taste a delightful sample of my nation's latest wares? The sooner you drink it, the better it will taste, yes."   ~Yugosan brewer in aParan
