Typhen Alliance

The Typhen Alliance is a confederation of city-states and petty kingdoms occupying the equatorial islands. The Alliance is primarily a mutual defense and a comercial pact, with its members engaging in preferential trade with each other and taking common cause when one of its members is threatened. Formed in desperate times, the Alliance has very little in standards of membership besides the consensus of existing members. This has led to significant discrepancies in the style of government of Alliance members, leading to tyrannical dictatorships partnered with anarcic democracies and nearly everything in between. Despite the immense sea power available when the island nations of the Alliance combine their fleets there is no obligation to aide in aggressive actions, so the full force of the Alliance Navy is generally only brought to bare on mutual threats. However, member fleets are not equal and the strongest individual states are capable of heading to war all on their own, although smaller states often join them in order to curry favor.
