The Cult of the Brezh
As far as anyone, the Brezh have no organised religion. There is the Queen and the Hivemind, and that is all that matters to them.
Their apathy for religion does not extend to the species that encounter them. Though they are often met with open revulsion for their ability to animate the bodies of the dead (or to take over the unwilling living there are many who find the Brezh to transcend the barriers between life and death. The Brezh find this fascination odd but tolerable.
Structure
There is a very loose structure to the Cult of the Brezh. They honor and revere the local queen and her attendants. The Brezh find this adoration odd, as they have no innate concept of organised religion, but they are an eminently practical species and use this to their advantage.
Non-Brezh cultists find themselves handling many of the tasks the Brezh cannot handle on their own. Many of them interact with other species, or help with the care and maintenance of the Brezh hives.
Public Agenda
The Cult of the Brezh has no public agenda. Cultists are drawn from the dying and the grieving to try and understand the existential nature of Death. The Brezh themselves gladly accept care for the dying with an offer of a peaceful, painless death in exchange for the use of the body after death.
Assets
On the Comet, the Brezh Cult maintains the management of the Waste Reclamation Systems and whatever resources brought by the dead and dying.
History
The Brezh Cult began sometime after the first interaction of the Brezh with another sentient species. The Brezh are the only sentient species that evolved on their world, where their role as scavengers meant they occupied the bodies of wild animals. The first species to explore and attempt to colonise the planet of the Brezh were haunted by their dead rising to speak with them again.
Many fled the planet of the Brezh, but others returned when they learned they could converse with their dead loved ones. The Brezh preserve the memories, if not the emotions of the dead, and many who have deep emotional bonds with a body occupied by the Brezh will use this second life as a chance to find closure and resolution, or even to just take a chance to say goodbye.
As grieving families began to stay with their loved ones, and word travelled far of a planet where the dead came back to life, a hospice was established for the painless death offered by the Brezh. And from their new encounters with sentient species, the Brezh evolved.
Small hospice colonies were established on other worlds, where people could come and give their loved ones a gentle respite. Though many fear and revile the Brezh for their unclean practices, many appreciate what the Brezh have to offer.
On the Comet, Captain Rill offered the Brezh their own space to form their own colony and hospice, and travel and explore the stars. They accepted, and the Comet's Queen Lazra rules her gentle hive with her quiet wisdom.
That which lies beyond the veil can be known.
