Kaluban

Kaluban is a subcontinent in between the Pearl ocean and the continent of Handayo. It is the home of monsters and the human races: Tigyagi, Mayanmangan, and Butaklag. (see more: Kalubano Society ) Kaluban is known to have a vast jungle in its mainland called The Wilderness that is populated by legions of deadly monsters that terrorize local towns almost on a daily basis. Because of this, it has become difficult to traverse through land safely and the only way to travel is through the seas. It is also known for its frequency of interfaction conflicts that enables a Culture of War for its people. Despite having been populated for thousands of years, most of the mainland has remained unknown and the only knowledge on life before the wilderness is from the famous legend, [Sinaunang Lupain.

Geography

Kaluban is a subcontinent with a large landmass in the center and is surrounded by archipelagos. Kaluban is separated into 16 regions: Islas Mangan, Costana, Halrio, Senique, Mishari, Haituk, Tigyag Timogita, Tigyag, Hilagita, Singis, Khagot, Sighat, Agmun, Ubang, Anpulu'ka Butak, Tigat Dug, and Hilgena. Most of the mainland is covered in jungles of the wilderness, but along the side are plains, lakes, and rivers that lead to the coast, perfect for irrigation. Lines of mountain ranges that separate tectonic plates can be seen throughout the mainland and connecting to peninsulas and archipelagos. Some parts of the lands are numerous volcanoes, mostly dormant and inside the boundaries of the wilderness. Beyond the coastlines and archipelagos are large seas that connect these islands. In Kaluban, there are 7 main seas: the Halrio sea, Anilam sea, Mayanmangan sea, Halimar sea, Sea of Yatuk-Ali, and Takokita sea.

Fauna & Flora

Flora

In the lands of Kaluban, there are two types of flora: flora that is inside the wilderness and outside the wilderness. Outside the Wilderness, there are mostly plains and small patches of forests with short fruit trees and small flowers. By the coast are palm trees and mangroves growing on flooded land and sandy beaches. Seaweed and other underwater plants are a common sight in Kaluban, and a famous delicacy.  In the plains grow tall grass and mighty trees of Narra that are usually used for everyday woodworks.

however, most of the dominating flora comes from inside the wilderness, the most well known are the tall jungle trees in the south that stretch to massive length and size. The outer areas of the wilderness are filled with dense jungles of overgrown vines, moss, and fungi. Some of which possess magical properties that aid local mambabarangs in their medicine and spells. In the inner areas are more spacious and populated by larger trees that can be as thick as buildings and as tall as the highest walls. through the entire wilderness, there is an abundance of flowers of different colors, shapes, and scent. Some have fleshy petals that are as thick as animal skin, and some with the sweetest aromas that can easily be mistaken for fresh bread. But many colorful plants are as dangerous as the monsters that inhabit it, for some plants may be sentient and carnivorous with acids that can melt through an entire body in a single day. One must always be cautios in the Wilderness, for the flora can be just as deadly as the fauna.

Fauna

much like the Flora, there are also two types of fauna: fauna inside the wilderness, and outside the wilderness. Outside the wilderness are a mixture of vertebrae and invertebrate, both herbivore, carnivore, and omnivores. Most of the faunas are tropical animals that are well adapted to hot environments. In the plains are herds of mammals like wild boars, dogs, and water buffaloes, and ones in trees and forests like monkeys, sloths, and wild cats. There aren't many animals with furry coats and hairy bodies, most have very thin layers of skin with little to no hair to survive the tropical climates. Reptiles and Amphibians such as the crocodiles, snakes, frogs, and lizards are located more on river banks and mangrove forests. Birds are in an abundance: hawks, eagles, seagulls, parrots, and toucans to name a few. Fishes are also in abundance, especially in coral reefs that house many schools of fishes, sharks, etc. Marine Life is just as colorful, if not more, than the fauna of the land. Small insects also populate the wild areas that help decompose dead living things and assist the reproduction of some flora.

In the wilderness, however, there is a different type of fauna. The Kalubanos call them Halimaw or Monsters, they are malformed bastardized creatures that reproduce through the Cursed Soil . Most are violent carnivorous creatures that long for nothing but to eat, kill, and sleep. Monsters come in different shapes and sizes, some are quadrupedal with skin that is as thick as stone, some are bipedal and sometimes even humanoid in appearance but larger and more menacing. The most common attribute to them are their deformed unnatural appearance, many are born with three hands, some with five legs, some have a mostly mammalian body with a head that fits more for a reptile. This is most likely due to their unconventional method of asexual reproduction: they bury themselves in the ground, cacoon themselves for a few months, and soon after it dies and fertilizes the ground with its eggs, once the eggs hatch, they burst out of the ground in search for their first meal. Most of the time, the form of the offspring can have different physical features as their parents. But some similar mutations form their own families and nests of monsters like the Wakwak, a group of winged bat-like primates with sharp teeth and long tongues, so that when they reproduce, they will birth similar offspring. Some monsters form herds so that they may hunt with effectively as a group. And when it is time for a monster to die, they bury themselves in the ground and begin their cycle of life all over again.
