Whisper Magick

While Whisper magick is often thought of as the 'lesser' or 'weaker' of the two magicks, this couldn't be further from the truth. Roar magick may be known for it's very nature of being 'showy' and dazzling in it's bursts of use, Whisper magick however, is valued more often by those who tend to be more discreet in their day-to-day pursuits. In this humble authors opinion, Whisper is by far the magick I'd prefer having a talent in, but I'll let you read on to determine why. You see this magick is, I believe, the more dangerous of the two. Let's say that you need a Duke assassinated. An experienced wielder of Roar could be used to bring an entire castle down around it's inhabitants, murdering the Duke in the process. However, an experienced Diviner of the Whisper would simply need to make their way into the throne room with the crowd during a ceremony at which point, they could use their Whisper to stop the Dukes' heart without alerting a single person. It's for these reasons that most wielders of Whisper magick, more commonly referred to as Diviners, tend to lean more towards subtle and discretionary types of work such as those of diplomats, assassins and healers.
Now having said that, Whisper does come with its own weaknesses as well. It may seem like common sense to pay attention to your Well as you're casting a spell, but if you don't cut off the spell at the right time, unfortunately the Diviner will quickly become intoxicated. And with Whisper users, the more intoxicated they get, the harder it is for them to break the spell they are casting. Diviners have a harder and harder time ending a spell as they become more intoxicated from overuse, thus making it more likely they'll kill themselves from over usage of magick.   And while the spells of a Roar Magus may begin strong and in large bursts, the longer the spell is in place, the more quickly it begins to weaken. When it comes to spells cast from a wielder of Whisper, the opposite fact is true: it will start out weaker and will need to build up to be a stronger spell. So in a nutshell, the more powerful a Whisper spell you need, the longer it will take to cast that spell. Roar would be great for fending off a gaggle of bandits in one or two fell swoops. Whisper however, would be great for throwing off a bandits timing in his sword swing or hurling pebbles behind a pursuer to throw them off your trail.
