Church of Énai

Structure

Abbots are the heads of local

Public Agenda

Stilling up zealous hate for Elves and everything elvish. Blessing and caring for sailors and fishermen.

Assets

They have churches in every harbour for Énai is the god of the sea. Exceptions being the temple of Énai in Stork's Nest. In the Northern woods small chapels can be found near former human settlements now overgrown with greenery.

Mythology & Lore

In the begining there was Énai and his domain of water, he then found land and spawned man there. He said onto him "Here is your domain as the sea is mine". He created a teacher for man to give him morality and that teacher's name was Éa, but Éa betrayed Énai and created her own domain on land. Énai was furious and washed her and most of her spawn to the depths with a mighty wave. She is mother to elves, orcs and goblins. Her children survived and plague mankinf eversince.

Divine Origins

It sprouted originally from elvish religion of Éa, but twisted the story and gained political hold with landgrabby men. Some facts remain same, but the elvish version is now considered heresy and lies often punishable by execution. The church took hold especially at far sea frontiers, where men don't come to contact with elves and at borders of the two realms where they are used as a conscription tool.

Ethics

If you feel like kiling find an elf to do it. Elves are intruders on the land and should not take ownership of any kind. If you hurt your neighbor he is entitled for vengeance, but you don't have the responsibility to let him. The stronger wins and there'sd no reason to abstain from violence, but heed the law of the land for your faith is not your shield from common justice.

Worship

As worship is counted any crime against other races. From namecalling to manslaughter it all fits the narrative. Worshipers come to churche every tide and pray for big enough wave to wash all filthy creatures from the land. They believe if such cataclysm would happen Énai would protect them as his own children.

Priesthood

They wear deep blue skirts with bluish tatoos on their upper body with wavy theme. Some shave their heads and some wear full body robes, but they are exceptions. The abbots can be distinguished by tatooed faces with blue waves on their cheeks. They don't suffer old people in their orders and murders can be common.

Political Influence & Intrigue

They are the glue between nobility and the comon folk. They have quite enough influence there so nobles usualy don't have to interfere with the faith and let them handle all manner of civil disputes.

Sects

There's are seabound groups lead usually by an elder who encourages the rest to stay at sea most of their lives. They are master navigators, sailors and lore-masters when it comes to the sea. Religious zeal goes as far as attacking vessels carrying elves (even as POWs) with makeshift axes they damage the hull to sink the ship. The group is most comonly smaller than ten vessels since they rely on water on land and fish for nutrients. They often carry scurvy and molds as sighn of their devotion and most respected are members who stay at sea most the time.
