House Aldam

Aldam, House of The Violet Ocean Depths

The seven generals from the west were the progenitors of modern Shifaell. Among them was Aloisant Aldam. Aloisant was a strategist, and though he was capable in battle, he preferred to think and observe, and to invite others to do the bloody work of combat for him. Shrewd, cunning pragmatism and ingenuity has been the mark of the Aldam line since. Aloisant's son, Farenbrend, brokered the peace between the five elven siele that sided with the western conquerors. It was an Aldam who devised the strict magical licensing system that dominates Shifaell, and it was an Aldam who devised the layout and bureaucracy for the first Faell Academy. With an acumen for thought, planning and achievement, it is unsurprising that Aldam is now the House Royal.

Values & Beliefs

Competence, masculinity, rationality, dominance, lawfulness.

Current Circumstances

Powerful, though public image marred by Princess Beatrice's open defiance in her younger years. Some observers believe the king's decision to give his daughter to the barbarians as a peace treaty to be a sign of weakness. Others suspect it is merely to put Beatrice in harm's way when the Faell forces inevitably attempt once again to route the barbaric orcish peoples from their land. Others still believe that the princess has been sent to 'civilise' the orcish populace.

Relics

The Sword of Telosaix. This longsword is crafted of a hardy mix of steel, silver and oak. Belonging to the warrior Telosaix, the sword was a gift from the mysterious merelves mentioned in The Seven Trials. Its blade does not dull even when struck against stone, and on is face is etched a graceful pattern reminiscent of glowing waves. This sword was used to slay the undead fishwives that surrounded the Necromancer's Isle, and to destroy the phylactery of the island's lich. Telosaix died in battle against the indigenous Faell elves, and this sword was owned by an elven family for decades before being reclaimed by the invading forces.

The Spear of Nathuin. This spear is approximately two meters long tip to tail. Made of a single white-grey, coral-like substance, its head is about forty-five centimetres long. Like the Sword of Telosaix, this spear was given by the merelves. It is said that this spear was crafted from the tooth of an ancient sea dragon, and the dragon's soul rests within it. The spear gave the warrior Nathuin such immense power that it made him almost invulnerable in battle. With this power was given a warning: the dragon is prideful, and will never permit a woman to grasp its power. How Nathuin's spear lost its power is debated, but the warrior died in battle, his spear's power absent. The inert spear has been in the care of House Aldam since the founding of Shifaell. The spear and its wielder play a significant part in stories of The Seven Trials.

Amulet of El'Naiara. The most striking feature of this amulet is the obsidian disk dangling from the white gold chain. The disk is encircled by an intricate container of gold. This amulet is the symbol of House Aldam. Its origins are unknown, but Aldam's House Chronicles name it as a gift from the elven mystic El'Naiara. Its properties are uncertain, and seem to shift to fit the purposes of its wearer. It is said that its magic only manifests for those of Aldam blood, and any who are not descended from the first wearer of this amulet will be unable to benefit from its powers. The amulet is linked to a number of tragic happenings in House Aldam's history, and for this reason, some believe it to be cursed.
