White Pemmican

In the stark wilderness of The Northland Wilds, a traveller's survival is tied as much to ensuring they are fed as it is to becoming fed to another creature. With so much of the Northlands unexplored and remote, preserving whatever rations have been gathered can mean the difference between life and death.   While various cultures across Alwaus have developed their own best practices, the unique environment of the Northland Wilds has demanded specific adaptations for cultures that with to explore and survive it's depths.   White Pemmican is the favored traveling ration in the Northlands. Made from a mushroom and root base in lieu of a reliant on game, it offers a well-preserved and nutrient-dense food that is easy to carry. Already being used by the various pocket-cultures that cling to survival in the Northland Wilds, White Pemmican was quickly adapted for use by the Stormislander Raiders who began terrorizing the shores and riverbanks of the Northlands in search of greed and plunder.   The primary ingredients of White Pemmican include a mixture of finely ground white mushrooms and root extract. These ingredients are carefully dried to preserve their potency and ground into a fine powder. The mushrooms impart the "white" coloration of the meal and provide an unusually high protein content, while things like berries and nuts can be added to mask the mushrooms' potent taste.   Beyond its practical value, White Pemmican holds cultural significance among the inhabitants of the Northlands. It is often seen as a symbol of resourcefulness and practicality, representing the ability to adapt to the challenges of the wilderness. Many cultures have their own variations of the recipe, passed down through generations and adapted to suit regional tastes and available ingredients.
