The Serene Protectors

A schism was formed in The Pantheon Church of Rystanburg after the death of Fredrich, Archbishop of Rystanburg (Winter 190 AoEE) in regards to the matter of Serene, the so called "Speaker of The Goddess" who claimed to be a prophet who hears the voice of The Goddess in their dreams. Such statements of overt blasphemy are rarely tolerated in the more conservative halls of the Kaldari Pantheon, but the favour she gained with the late Archbishop Fredrich ensured her a level of protection against the denouncements and machinations of Rosphranco, Bishop in Rystanburg and his allies.    The archbishop's body was still warm when the The Order of Paladins in Rystanburg were ordered by Rosphranco, Bishop in Rystanburg to seize the child Serene. As a military order sworn to protect and uphold the laws and values of The Panethon, most of the order were quick to follow the orders of Rosphranco and apprehend the alleged prophet - however a group of priests and paladins lead by Lady Pryce, a Paragon Captain in Rystanburg rallied to the child's defense and attempted to dissuade their fellow paladins against this course of action. Accusations of insubordination and treachery were thrown by both sides, a brief conflict even left of the order wounded and another dead before the fighting could be quelled by the pantheon while the fate of Serene is determined.    In the meantime, the alleged prophet Serene was ordered quarntined to the Northeast Tower, with her supporters serving as only protection from those who would see them humiliated or dead. The informal armistice between the two groups was tenuous at best, with both sides being well aware that a moment's break in vigilance could mean the prophet's seizure or escape from the Northeast Tower. Every watchful for attempts agains the prophet's life, The Serene Protectors are true believers in the Speaker of The Goddess and believe with outmost conviction that they are serving the very word of the The Goddess herself.    Their certainty and faith makes them a potentially powerful group, especially if the prophet's influence is able to expand beyond the The Central Highlands , some many member of the Pantheon would sooner die than allow happen.

Composition

Manpower

While the initial group that rallied to Serene's defense was only a dozen paladins and twice that in the priesthood and constabulary, the prophet's influence grows at alarming rate despite her captivity. Many come to speak with her - some of which claim they were called to the Northeast Tower by powerful convictions. Within a matter of weeks the number of paladins and priests protecting Serene has tripled, and dozens more arrive each day to speak with Serene and hear the word of The Goddess themselves.

Equipment

The The Order of Paladins leads the protectors in their goal of protecting The Speaker of The Goddess. Paladins are trained for combat in a variety of circumstances, but are best known for their use as defensive shock troopers and heavy cavalry - a form of battle Pryce, Paragon Captain has a reputation for skill in. Most paladins wear heavy armour and carry both a polearm and arming sword at their hip. Some have been known to favor heavy shields or even crossbows as well, with the strength of each unit being largely influenced by its versatility.

Vehicles

With no formal access to the stables, a makeshift corral has been set up on northern courtyards of The Northeast Tower (upearthing a rather bountiful garden of roses in the process. Initially stocked with only the horses belonging the the paladins themselves, the paddock has been expanded once already to accommodate additional horses and wagons that have been procured or donated by the protectors.

Structure

The Paladin Order is the undisputed leaders of The Serene Protectors, with Captain Pryce at their head of leadership. Orders and commands given by Pryce and her Paladins are expected to be followed as if they were given by Serene (and therefore The Goddess) herself.
