The Ancient Language

The language spoke in the early ages of the Alvain's history. The laws of magic were first spoken in this language, and as a result the arts of arcane, primal, and operating magic are all tied to it. While most would likely say the language was created by the Alvain, in truth the the tongue has existed long since before even they, or even the dragons ruled Alwaus. Some believe the ancient language is the song The Goddess used when she sung the world into creation, and those unfortunate enough to survive an encounter with the Synmatre have been able to confirm it is with this language that they communicate - albeit with a pronunciation so different that the alvain dialect that communication in the tongue was a barrier.   Rarely spoken now, as the language is widely considered too complicated and cumbersome for efficient conversation. A language of poetry, context, and methaphor, even a simple clause such as "The wind was rather strong today" could take upwards of a minute or longer to speak - even longer if the speaker chose to delve into the deeper and more nebulous phrases that so often accommodate the language. A more common language was developed to establish relations and trade with the other races in the world after the Alvain and Kinderstärke species collaborated together to determine a common method of communication between all species in an effort to ensure the likes of The Immortal Wars woudl never happen again.   The Common Language was officially declared the new language of both Stolzetürm and Alvantes in year 3900 AoA, after over four centuries of meticulous design and study. While many traditionalists still cling to the Ancient Language (in particular the The Alvain Dialect of The Ancient Language) the Common Tongue quickly became commonplace in the cultures of both peoples, and was one of the first and most successful partnerships between the two immortal nations.   Today the language is spoken only in rare instances, and of course whenever someone wishes to cast a spell.
