She rushed through the freshly painted corridors, tablet in one hand, briefcase in the other, listening to the transcript of the ‘faculty,’ as she’d begun thinking of the six silent backers of the academy. Most of what they spoke about was beyond her understanding, Valiant’s was speak was so littered with technical details she suspected he did it on purpose to sound more erudite, which was amusing, considering the medieval aspect of his tech-based hero persona. The others spoke normally enough, although Le Demonist’s French accent became thick at times. Even if she understood little, listening to them gave a sense of what to expect from Mister Harker’s next visit.
Being dean had never been on Diane’s list of things to become. She’d seen too much of the problems those who ran the schools she taught at dealt with, the school board getting in the way of proper education, budget being cut over and over and the dean having to decide what to sacrifice when there should never be a question the students came first and damn whole any board demanded. She’d done her best with her classrooms then, up to and including talking a few companies into paying for the books need for her student in exchange for add placement in those books.
