Techno-Virus

The Techno-Virus; a nightmare breed between the organic and technology run amuck. A year after a synth settlement was established in Chicago, the Techno-Virus appeared. Human beings inflicted with the disease slowly experience the horror of having their organic body transform into metal. Although much is not known of the virus, scientists in Chicago have learned a bit of how the virus operates.
  • The Techno-Virus is a Nano-robotic that replicates by using human cells as building materials.
  • Currently, there is no cure; however, through the use of genetic therapy, the Techno-Virus can be slowed in an individual. This will allow the individual to have more time before the virus completely petrifies them in metal.
  • The virus is transmissible via contact with infected blood.
  • Before the inventible result of death, infected people will see some bodily benefits of the virus. The transformation of human cells into bio-robotic material grants super human level abilities.

Transmission & Vectors

The Techno-Virus is as contagious as it is lethal. Transmission is only possible between human beings - even those who have been mutated from radiation. So, animals in the wasteland are fortunate in this regard. However, the Techno-Virus can quickly spread between humans, super mutants, and ghouls. The virus is a bloodborne pathogen; however, it can be spread from coming in contact with infected blood - even having in blood splatter on bare skin poses a risk of the Techno-Virus spreading.

Symptoms

The Techno-Virus begins its life cycle as causing symptoms of the flu. The Techno-Virus then begins to cause organic tissue to develop cybernetic attributes. Veins slowly become visible through the skin as they become grey in color and grow a metallic coat. Those plagued with the Techno-Virus will have an epicenter of where the virus is spreading from. This epicenter will become metallic with a robotic appearance. As the techno-virus reaches its next phase, it is not uncommon to see the afflicted with a robot arm that could be mistaken for a prosthetic. Eventually, the techno-virus will reach major organs. The initial reaction to this symptom is the organ gaining an increase in effectiveness (e.i. Lungs become stronger, eyes gain superior vision. muscle strength increase, etc.) However, eventually the organs will begin to fail as they become stiffer in their metallic coats. In these late stages, the afflicted will begin to experience severe paranoia, hallucinations, and organ failure. At the end, the afflicted will die from organ failure, and their body will eventually become a perfectly preserved metal sculpture.

Treatment

There are currently no ways to cure someone who is infected with the Techno-Virus. However, genetic therapy treatments can slow the virus's spread. If one catches the virus soon enough, they can amputate the epicenter of where the virus is spreading.

Prevention

Those who are inflicted with the Techno-Virus tend to be covered in robes that fully cover the body. Since the virus spreads through contact with infected blood, proper sanitation and protective gear is encouraged for those interacting with the plagued. More importantly, the constant washing of hands has been found to be an effective way of preventing the Techno-Virus from spreading.

History

No one knows how the Techno-Virus came to be; however, the Techno-Virus did begin to spread a year after the synth settlement of Chantli.
