Bi-Species

Whether through biological compatibility or by magically assisted means, couples of differing species have been producing children all across the known world for as long as memory extends. How these children fit into and are viewed by their society depends a lot on the species of their parents and the part of the world they grow up in.   Child producing unions between the various Goblinoid races, Orcs, Goblins, Hobgoblins, and Bugbears, are known to be fairly common; many historians believe that they must have shared a common ancestor, and their societies and cultures, though distinct, have been intertwined since long before the fall of the Iron Alliance. Those with only one Goblinoid parent, however, particularly if the other parent is of a Humanoid race, often face unique problems. If not raised with their Goblinoid parent, they may feel they have no place in Goblinoid culture, while at the same time inheriting the same prejudice their Goblinoid parent faces which makes fitting in to Humanoid culture equally difficult. Those with enough orc or goblin ancestry in their linage to show the physical markers of it, such as tusks or mottled green skin, are often lumped into the same category as full-blooded Goblinoids by society at large, many struggle with this automatic association.   The Humanoid races - Elves, Humans, Haflings, Dwarves, and Gnomes - are similarly known to intermarry and produce children, with unions between Humans and Elves perhaps being the most common. Half-Elves are often pointed to as particularly "beautiful" and "exotic" by society at large; while many people begrudge them this, it can set them up on a pedestal they don't necessarily want to be on.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Producing offspring is possible through sexual reproduction between all Humanoid and Goblinoid races. Various precautions should be taken in regards to the size of the child-baring parent and the potential infant; in the event of potential harm, magical means are available to ensure safe, healthy births.   Likewise Lizardfolk and Drakin have been known to produce offspring, though the resulting eggs are known to be notoriously fragile and difficult to care for through gestation; the optimal temperature the eggs must be kept at can vary wildly from what either parent is accustomed to, and must often be guessed at. Again, magical assistance to ensure greater egg survival is available, but individuals with both Lizardfolk and Drakin parentage are still rather rare. Child producing unions between Avians and Lizardfolk or Drakin are rare enough to be unheard of to most, but can still occur.   Centaurs are not known to be able to produce offspring through sexual means with any other species, due to incompatibility of reproductive organs. Similarly, it is unknown for any of the Humanoid or Goblinoid races, who are mammals and give birth to live young, to successfully produce offspring with any of the Lizardfolk, Drakin, or Avian races, all egg layers. However, it has been known for unions of any species to decide they want a child and create one through magical means, though such magic is known to be difficult, rare, and expensive.

Ecology and Habitats

Bi-species folk can be found all over Daearen, wherever many folk of different species mingle. As one might expect, all five cities have a sizable population, especially Naddred.
